I agree that raycast does have a fresh coat of paint that feels contemporary. Also, credit where due, they have done a great job of incorporating “the most useful thing” from a bunch of adjacently useful apps to alfred, like hyperkey, notes etc. As a result, I also feel like they lowered the activation threshold for a utility to start feeling useful. There’s a bit of product voodoo there that I really appreciate.

So, I can see them really increasing the addressable size of the market for the Spotlight++ market. That said, for my taste, they are betting on the AI market more than I thought when I’d rather the launcher be this super resource friendly platform, which to me is where alfred shines, despite a slightly dated look.

p.s. idk if it will help you, but I updated the look with SF Pro text and some minor changes to spacing and it is already starting to look more modern to my eye.

I think the #LightPhone3 is better than a shitty "#ProducedEwaste" #Android 8.1 brick from China but I don't consider it worth the premium asked [U$D 799 MSRP, U$D 599 preorder] for it.

• Plus their #Website being built to mandate #JavaScript isn't very "respecting" of me as a potential user.

I think people can get a better experience buying a #degoogled #Fairphone with #eOS and just put #RelaunchX as an #eInk-optimized #launcher on it and have a better option.

• But I guess given #ForProfitHealthcare in the #USA is expensive I can see why a lot of people would rather buy such a device and sell their old one than seek therapy if they are susceptible to shitty patterns that #developers harness to maximize #screentime and #revenue.

Can't have #doomscrolling or #microtransactions if it doesn't support #NSAbook's #apps or shitty #PayToLoose #games...

• I do however acknowledge that there is a #market for #smol & #sleek "#StupidPhones" or rather compact #Smartphones and I do want to see more competition for it.

What I do have to say is that #MKBHD acknowledges that he isn't the target audience and "that's fine"...

• I just think that requiring people to sign up to some account just to be able to add/remove #Apps is a major #nope in my book.

I stayed off #GooglePlay for longer than it's being called like that and their "#lightOS" is most likely some tightly locked-down Android...

• It's just an insultingly high pricetag for < $200 internals and the best feature they have isn't even the phone but offering a "no frills" plan which seems okay (by #USA standards!) but still...

I think people would be more accepting if it was a $299 or even $399 device, but at a price of a @monocles #phone whilst being way less versatile it's just not worth it.

• Cuz it's not even a super "secure" device or offers something like a "concierge service" where the device price is artifically high to filter out average #WageWorkers without much disposable income...

Klingt jetzt erstmal eher unsexy. Ablenkungsfreie Nutzung geht auch über einen entsprechenden #Launcher, z.B. den #BlackLauncher (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.radefffactory.simplelauncher), da hat man aber viel mehr Möglichkeiten.

I tried a couple of replacement app launchers on my #Android phone, like #Fossify #Launcher https://www.fossify.org from F-Droid.

But I have a problem: a few times a day, the home screen will freeze up! I have to force stop the launcher app to get it working again (which is tricky because I can't use the launcher to do it).

Doesn't happen with the stock Pixel Launcher, only third-party launchers.

Anybody got any ideas how to fix this?

J'ai testé un peu Smart Launcher Pro. Je mettrais bien un 7/10 car pour moi il manque quand même deux trois options de personnalisation et surtout de la stabilité. J'ai remarqué des soucis à ce niveau là.

An other issue with the #bliss #launcher is that upon resizing a widget, it floods the OS with request to update the widget view.

On older phones (tested on Samsung s5 aka klte), it blocks the phone for several minutes to handle all the flooded update requests.

After some struggling, I managed to make all the four widgets also look acceptable with the #android #bliss #launcher , which is default on /e/OS.

Hope you folks using /e/OS appreciate that.

The point is that the #bliss #launcher is buggy and returns completely implausible widget sizes, on which one cannot rely when calculating the layout.

The #widgets will resize better on other launchers, but now they at least look acceptable with the #bliss #launcher.
