看到牠呼吸很急促時，都令人特別擔心🥺，
深怕牠吸不到氣，或是換氣過快而引起其他問題，
所以都會快速的想辦法，讓牠盡快降溫，調解呼吸頻率，
因為短鼻犬無法像正常的狗狗那樣有效率地呼吸換氣，
牠們可能會出現
📌 喘氣加快
📌 體溫上升
📌 體力下降
📌 呼吸困難
📌 呼吸聲嘈雜
📌 呼吸聲異常（可能發出類似「豬叫」的聲音）
嚴重的話，狗狗會昏迷、中暑甚至是熱衰竭與其他併發症。
短鼻犬飼主必看！你知道狗狗也會熱衰竭嗎？尤其是這幾個犬種！
由於法鬥是人類後來才培育出來的犬種，
牠們天生有異常生長的頭骨內縮，容易擠壓呼吸道，
還有軟顎過長、鼻孔狹窄、喉囊外翻、舌頭肥厚、氣管發育不全等問題，
使呼吸道被阻塞且無法正常散熱，
而造成牠們很容易患有「呼吸道阻塞症候群（BOAS）」的症狀，
常見於巴哥犬、法國鬥牛犬、英國鬥牛犬、
吉娃娃、西施犬、鬆獅犬、北京犬、拳師犬..等短鼻犬身上。
💡 BOAS 是什麼？
全名為：短鼻犬阻塞性呼吸道症候群
Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrom, BOAS
是一種常出現在短鼻犬身上的症狀，
簡單來說就是容易軟顎過長或過厚，
容易造成呼吸道阻塞，吸不到空氣，
造成短鼻犬容易出現打鼾、開口呼吸、呼吸困難…等症狀，
長時間累積下來會出現喉頭塌陷、氣管發育不全的問題。
💡 BOAS常見症狀與併發症
除了呼吸困難、開口呼吸，伴隨呼吸聲異常之外，
還會導致：散熱能力差，容易中暑、熱衰竭、
胃食道逆流、嘔吐、睡眠呼吸中止症、
心血管問題、心肌梗塞、心律不整、心衰竭、猝死…等
如有發現自家毛孩有上述症狀，請儘快送醫檢查，
但不是每家獸醫診所都能做 BOAS 手術，
其中關係到診所的設備與醫生專業等問題。
💡 BOAS可以經由手術改善嗎？
如果毛孩由醫師診斷後確認是BOAS，
部分結構異常的毛孩可以透過外科手術改善，
如：把狹窄的鼻孔擴大、把過長的軟顎切除、切除外翻的喉小囊，
讓毛孩呼吸道可以更暢通，
但還是有一些部分是幾乎沒辦法透過手術去改善的，
如：天生的氣管發育不良、鼻甲骨生長異常等。
此外，做手術都有風險與後遺症，
針對每隻毛孩的狀況不同而有差異，
所以日常照護與術後定期追蹤檢查也是非常重要的！
💡 為了減少毛孩BOAS惡化，我們可以如何改善？
短鼻犬因可愛的外表深受大眾歡迎，
導致不少繁殖者在育種時，會特別強化短鼻犬特徵，
使原本高發生率的BOAS更加嚴重，
許多行銷也常以短鼻犬去做廣告，
再度強化大眾『扁臉特別可愛』的印象，
讓大眾因衝動而飼養短鼻犬，
如此惡性循懷造成BOAS難以消失，
希望大家在飼養寵物前，
可以慎重思考與評估是否有能力照顧？
是否可提供毛孩們完善的醫療照護？
千萬不要因為覺得短鼻犬『很可愛』而衝動飼養，
像Roger也是天生鼻孔狹窄，幾乎是沒有鼻孔那種，
所以在牠睡覺的時候喜歡撐著頭睡，
牠自己會靠著牠床的邊緣（較高處），或是沙發上的抱枕、
後來給牠買了一個花花的頭套，讓牠可以走到哪就躺到哪，
發現牠會因此睡得比較安穩，
因為Roger鼻孔較小的關係，散熱機制不良，
我們都特別注意牠的情緒與活動量，
在出去運動、玩耍時，應保持陰涼、水份充足，
避免牠們有劇烈活動或是情緒過度興奮，
盡可能維持在正常的狀態，才能保持呼吸的順暢！
