@Daojoan I remember when email was exciting to get. But massive automation and the pursuit of profit and/or personal gain has taken the joy out of it. I don’t get personal emails anymore. I suppose some of that communication has moved to slightly more real-time (but still asynchronous) text or instant messaging on phones, but it used to be more of both, and the chat was sometimes with new people to get to know.

Internet security is so much more of a thing to worry about too. Regular ol’ HTML pages were fine, but once we moved to more powerful dynamic webpage generation and site services, we introduced security vulnerabilities that now require some amount of expertise to guard against to avoid the profit seekers from taking over and using your server to mine crypto currency, host scams, or send spam.

Our experience is that #wikipedia is an indictment on the #legacyInternet. It permits abuse, with omission and lies (re #Australian politics).

We see Wikipedia (incl. #WikiMedia) as a #politicalWeapon, also by how they shifted goalposts to prevent a more socially acceptable FediverseIcon being made available (2021-present).

Wikipedia can be 'fun' as you express, but it ought never be used for anything but scant curiosity. It's ultimately a dangerously #authoritarian construct.

CONVIVIAL SUFFICIENCY is the goal.

Can we leave partisan prejudice garbage at the door, disagree vibrantly on stuff and agree furvantly on other stuff, and do so with #compassion. Expressing disagreement is a type of #love.

This is going to be the big challenge in the centrally controlled #legacyInternet.

We cannot get there with extreme #massSurveillance, pre-crime divisions, and #repression.

We did wonder that ourselves when we looked at it.

Indeed a lot can change in 5 years in this field of censorship and surveillance. We hope people continue to help the I2P network, we would like to see it replace the #legacyInternet — as far-fetched as that might sound.

Assange is tortured (according to #UN) for over 4 years now in the #UK.

We searched for the date of his arrest (11 April 2023), but the search *itself* was revealing (see results below). They show just how bad the #legacyMedia and #legacyInternet have become.

It seems some #searchEngines and media outlets operate to present data to greivously malign #JulianAssange and misrepresent his situation.

We expect better from #Qwant Search. Thankfully, #Metager seems better.

We are at the stage of thinking the #legacyInternet is unworkable.

Maybe sites ought to have a message in the top in bright colouring, "We are openly considering moving to I2P if at least 20 of our top 40 interacting instances are interested in doing the same."

It may seem like a bold move but we see it as inevitable.

It will likely spur innovations in #TransparentProxying through #I2P.

We think part of the problem is the #legacyInternet itself. It very much enables surveillence capitalism. Dissent can be fractured very easily today by the fascistic corporate state via surveillance cap.

COVID appears to have euthanized a lot of thought and debate. A huge emphasis on sport in our news media in Australia is telling.

If a CDN becomes too big the result is a just another #centralisation problem. Again, censorship and suppression at scale in the form of denial of serving content like #images and #videos is possible.

The #TooBigToExist CDN can also begin to gather data on users, for example when they are accessing the content and what content do they tend to look at etc.

The very nature of the #legacyInternet is unworkable. Alternatives like #I2P and Tor exist.

We feel that we must respond to that claim of "I2P" being too much effort.

I2P comes with a web domain already. One just switches it on and types what they want into the existing HTML file.

In your case you might add the PDF to the folder.

Its also likely that <YOUR_BOOK_TITLE>.i2p is available, you can just take it. Ppl in I2P don't hoard domains, like in #legacyInternet and anonymous #volunteers host DNS in the interest of community rather than corporate greed.

We forget, what is your position on CloudFlare? A lot of sites are "fake Russian" and actually go through #CloudFlare.

A good way to find #fakeSites or sites that allow #massSurviellance, is to use Ctrl+Shift+E in TorBrowser. CloudFlare sites have "cf-ray" in their HTTP responses, #Amazon have "amz" or "AmazonS3". The #AkamaiGhost and Azure are centralised scams.

Lots of #malware as a service on the #legacyInternet.

We once wrote to RT and asked them why they even used Google/AmazonSoundCloud.

A lot of the important videos they did selfHost but they placed greater importance on #HDVideo than on being resiliant.

Its going to take time to update their site with low bandwidth versions but it was always going to happen.

They will setup onionsites and #eppsite too, so this is looking all very positive in the long term.

Buggar the #legacyInternet.

We learn things by using the NetworkTab in the DeveloperTools of #TorBrowser.

It is our belief that using #TorBrowser with the Safest setting, is the only way to use the #clearnet (aka the #legacyInternet) today. And that #I2P represents a future of #theInternet that does not involve extreme #corporateFascism.
