3 postcard sized lego prints:
The first shows a green slug and an orange slug. They are leaning towards each other forming a loose circle shape, looking a bit like the ying yang symbol.
The second is picturing a snail with a shell printed in a muted pink tone.
The third shows a snail peaking out of it's rather long drawn shell. It's based on the shell of Lissachatina fulica.

After inking, place the mask on top, now you're ready to print!

Mask on top of printing plate and the motif is inked.
I use scrap paper for this, copy paper works just fine.

I was asked how I avoid printing unwanted marks from the studs when I print with lego. After watching a few linocut tutorials I saw some people working with masks for small parts in another color. And I applied this Idea to my lego prints. Here are a few photos, there are further descriptions in the alt text.

I print a first layer and cut out everything I want to print in that pass. In this case it's only one of the slugs, the other got a different color. It's good to cut out a tight shape, but you don't want to touch the bricks forming the motif. But you can make corrections at a later stage too.

The mask should now cover most of the plate you do NOT want to print. I recommend taping the mask at one border to your desk.
(The wooden rulers visible are my register for the position of the lego plate. I'm still looking for better solutions)

Flap flap. That way you can easily remove the mask or cover the plate without much fuzz. Flap it back.

Now ink the parts you want to have printed WITHOUT the mask. You don't want to have any ink on the top side of your mask at all. If you have color on it you need to make a new mask, since it won't dry fast enough.

I never tried to sell my art before, but since I started printing it seems like a reasonable next step! 😂

Postcard sized lego prints spread to dry. They show a green slug and an orange slug. They are leaning towards each other forming a loose circle shape, looking a bit like the ying yang symbol.

When I made the green print I had difficulties with the consistency of the ink and then I got so distracted by this, so I did not think about the color shade. It did not turn out as the kind of color I had in mind. (Thank you #adhd.)
I'm not sure if I should start over. I have planned a set of three motifs with gastropods* and it does not quite fit my expectations.

*Btw we have one word for snails and slugs in german. Slugs are "naked snails".

Two postcards with snail prints:
One one postcard is mauve snail. On the second one is a green slug and there is some blank space left for an other layer.

I did this quick print to test the design. I intended to do it in one color, but I suspect it will work better with different colors for the shell and the body.

I sketched this out yesterday and dreamed of crows last night. The last linocut I made was in school.

"Snail" - mini print / postcard size (A6)

I made 16 good ones of this. I'm still thinking about how to improve my work flow with the printing process, but I'm happy with the result.
