this morning I read the part that describes how the bishop of D— went blind before his death, but that this condition was actually a “paradise of darkness” because he had a sister wholly devoted to him, available at any time to lavish care and worship upon him and thus he was to be envied!

and i have some antipathy to that characterization

i am also very curious how #blind readers experience and interpret this whole passage
