🔥 Auf der Insel Neuwerk in der Elbmündung trotzt seit mehr als 700 Jahren ein wuchtiges Backsteingebäude Wind und Wetter. Der Leuchtturm wurde 1310 errichtet, um den Fernhandel Hamburgs zu sichern und Zufahrtswege zu verteidigen.

🌊 Seit mehr als 700 Jahren ist Hamburgs ältestes Gebäude Wind und Wetter ausgesetzt. Es trotzt den Naturgewalten und erzählt von Seeräubergefahr, Sturmfluten und neuerdings auch vom Wandel auf einer Insel zwischen Tradition und Zukunft.

@pfarrerb Ich verstehe das und bin weitgehend einverstanden, auch wenn ich nicht finde, dass da irgendetwas auf der Hand liegt. Mich irritiert aber sehr das Bild vom #Leuchtturm. Der ist nämlich keineswegs dazu da, dass Menschen hinkommen, das wäre, im Gegenteil, gefährlich.

Chatham Lighthouse, 6/18/25. The Chatham Light Station used to have two lighthouse towers. The other tower was moved to Eastham, MA and is now Nauset Light. The circular gavel pit with the white anchor is the footprint of that other tower.

Have you ever been to South Foreland Lighthouse? I love visiting for several reasons. One of them is Mrs Knott‘s tea room. You can drink your tea inside between vintage photos, old china and furniture and pretend to be in the 1930ies or 40ies. Or you sit outside and enjoy the marvellous weather and the view across the English Channel. And delicious cream tea, too
