honestly, the janky-ass superflous animations & effects even with all the “reduce motion” #accessibility options enabled seem to exist only to slow down my previously very snappy recent-gen (n-2) #iPhone – this isn’t event planned obsolescence, it feels like hastened obsolescence to make the #Apple money printer go brrr just a little sooner than usual, as a treat 😤

Yes, macOS 26, this is exactly the size I'd like to open Xcode. When I closed it two days ago while it was full screen I hoped, you would notice that the Xcode window was way to huge on my 13 inch screen. Thank you for realizing that smaller is better when it comes to Xcode windows. Maybe you find a way to make the window even smaller next time. Surprise me!

Fuck, no, Apple. I was forced to update to iOS 26 due to lack of security updates for 18 on devices that can run 26 (i.e., due to extortion) but you’re not infecting my Mac with Liquid Ass.

Notice the dark pattern of pestering you in hopes you will accidentally hit the “Restart” button even though you’ve specifically turned off auto updates. Microsoft-level disrespect for consent here.

(Not surprising from a company that gives golden awards to fascists.)

@nilshoerrmann I’ll have to actually try some on my old Intel Mac to get a feel for it. Mint, Pop and Ubuntu are my favourites from watching countless YouTube videos. I did use Ubuntu over 15 years ago but it looks like a lot has changed (for the better). With #liquidass I am actually pretty excited to switch, especially seeing the customisation and window managers.

Oh bollocks! I just accidentally updated to whatever version of #MacOS is the #liquidAss version on my Macbook: The feckers somehow tricked me just like they did on my phone.
Setting 'Display contrast' works well, doesn't it? Those toggle switches are soooo much easier to see. 🤦‍♂️ (Photo, as a screen grab doesn't actually show the bleached out effect).

I’ve turned off automatic updates on my Mac to ensure I don’t run into the same bullshit with the automatic iOS 26 update on the phone and I suggest you do the same.

Keep the security updates toggle on, though.

First time I’ve had to take such action in about two decades of owning a Mac.

This is me, unable to send the previous post on @MonaApp on iOS 26 because the keyboard is covering the send button.

(The workaround, as I’ll soon be employing for this post also, is to go to close the post, tap outside it to close the pop-up confirmation dialogue, and then use the send button, which becomes accessible again.)

So my phone tricked me into updating to iOS 26 (nice one, asshats). And wow: it really is a case study in form over function. Gratuitous, meaningless aesthetics and motion. Decoration, not design. “Look what I can do!”

Oh well, if it gets me using my phone less, that’s a good thing, I guess.

But the next time you hear someone from Apple talking about design, please feel free to laugh in their damn faces. What a sad joke they’ve become.

@paul weirdly this is not enough to get rid of the red dot in system settings. To get rid of that, i have to occasionally also disconnect ethernet and disable WLAN and then run `softwareupdate -l` in terminal.
If Linux/BSD had a better GUI (which isn't stuck in the 90s), i'd probably be switching in a heartbeat.

I have lost count of how many times I have tried to tap the teensy tiny address bar in Safari on iPad, only to end up double tapping the top of the screen and turning the app into a window instead. There should be an option to disable that gesture, and to have the damn address bar expand more again.
