Is there a convention in #Lix to add stuff to a shell in a local environment without modifying a committed shared file? Let’s say I clone a Rust project that includes a shell.nix with everything to build it, and I wanna add rust-analyzer to its resulting shell. I guess I could add an ignored local.nix, but I wonder if there’s already a practice in this regard

Just wrapped up a blog post about my recent experience contributing to NixOS and nixpkgs. It was great to help bring Drupal to such a unique a Linux distribution and that experience helped me learn a ton about reproducible operating systems design.
It also helped me realize that using NixOS as a all-in-one solution for building and deploying simple webservers could be a big win for the web and web publishers if implemented correctly.
@jakehamilton There is also the question of: move to where, exactly? I know #aux exists and I've personally migrated to #lix and there is also #snix on the horizon, but those are more tech. bootstrapping and aux is, to my knowledge, not dog-foodable yet as a distro?
You would point people who want to use Linux to GCC and kernel.org. If you are just into nix and like to maintain a package or two but don't have the time or interest to really get in on the groundwork, it's slim pickings

I'm considering to reinstall my #macOS for the next major OS upgrade. Is there anything I need to be aware of since I'm using #nix / #lix / #nixdarwin and #homeManager?
In my dream world I'd simply tell the installer to do a clean re-install / upgrade, reinstall lix and then pull in my flake from git and do a system-rebuild?
(and ofc restore other stuff and files from my CCC backup)

Sigh, so apparently Tom Berek of Steering Committee is now working for Anduril. You know, that same Anduril that caused an open letter denouncing MIC sponsoring community events. I don't see how it's acceptable for SC members to work for Anduril, especially in the wake of the whole, you know...
The failure to provide an update to his conflict of interest (and two SC members stating their personal opinions that they don't see much of an issue) is a breach of trust. This means, once again, that the community has to organize by themselves, and demand accountability from people in power. To this end, please spread this information far and wide, and give @nyanbinary a hug. And go support your local #Lix and #Aux representatives.
