Remember how I said we received Jan 27 as an extra holiday during Lunar New Year? Well, it's payback time. Today is a make-up work day.

There's no such thing as a free lunch, kids.

Well, Lunar New Year is over, and it's back to the grindstone this morning. Firecrackers going off all over the city.

Today is the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. Most people are staying home or going out to tourist sites. Some restaurants and coffee shops are starting to open again. Apparently, going from Pingtung to Taoyuan (~4hrs according to Google) is taking 9 hours.

🐍 Happy Lunar New Year! I haven’t had time to cook up something new, but I did dig up this guy. Its Sinkhole Sam! I did this little big guy for @cryptidcrate and he was a ton of fun. For whatever reason, I get a Eureeka’s Castle vibe off this guy and I’m here for it. -Clyde

The Sinkhole Sam legend from Kansas tells the story of a monstrous creature said to inhabit Inman Lake, particularly near a notorious sinkhole. The legend is rooted in local folklore, with some believing Sam is a prehistoric holdover that was trapped as rivers and streams in the area dried up.

Today is the second day of the Lunar New Year. Traditionally, people would go to visit the wife's family. Alternatively, it can be for shopping or travel to scenic spots. There's usually a lot of traffic on the highways if the weather is nice.

I feel the need to draw up a chart of when to use the term "(Asian) Lunar New Year" or "Chinese New Year".

Today is the first day of the Lunar New Year. People went early to temples and engaged in a mad dash to be the lucky first one to throw a joss stick into the incense burner as soon as the temple gates opened. Others stayed at home and visited, and others went shopping.

Year of the snake, but it's this snake.

Illustration of a sleepy snake in a curved bed shaped like a "C". There is a Python logo on the headboard of the bed. The snake is wearing a blue nightcap and has its head resting on a pillow, eyes closed. Its body is under a blue blanket.

This is the Coverage.py mascot.

At the bottom of the image is a name, "Ben Batchelder"

The year of Snake.
A DigitalNZ Story by Ting Sun.
The Snake is the sixth sign of the Chinese Zodiac, which consists of 12 Animal Signs. It is the enigmatic, intuitive, introspective, refined and collected of the Animals Signs. Ancient Chinese wisdom says a Snake in the house is a good omen because it means that your family will not starve. Happy New Year!

How you can celebrate Lunar New Year in Wellington.
Did you know that the first Chinese restaurant in Wellington was opened on Courtenay Place in the 1940s? Or that the precinct is the location of Wellington’s first Chinese New Year Festival held in 2001? That makes Courtenay Place a fitting location to celebrate the Lunar New Year in Wellington!
