Wow, I love this so much. So true. Thank you to my psychology of romantic relationships for sharing this valuable perspective.

The True Meaning of a Relationship

A relationship is not built on perfect moments but on the choices we make in the hardest ones. It’s easy to love when things are good, when smiles are effortless, and when everything seems to fall into place. But true love is tested in the moments of hurt, misunderstanding, and distance. It is in these moments that the strength of a relationship is revealed—not in how loudly we express our love in happy times, but in how gently we handle each other in difficult ones.

When someone hurts you, your first instinct might be to strike back, to show them how much their words or actions wounded you. But choosing understanding over revenge is the difference between love that lasts and love that crumbles. Because pain is never healed by causing more pain. Instead, real love chooses to mend, not to break further.

When someone shouts at you, the easy response is to match their volume, to let anger control the moment. But love isn't about winning arguments; it's about listening, about hearing beyond the frustration and understanding what lies beneath. Because real strength is found in patience, not pride. The strongest love is one that chooses peace over ego, one that values harmony over the need to be right.

But when someone needs you, when they are at their lowest, at their weakest, no matter the circumstances, no matter the time that has passed—you show up. You become their safe place, their anchor in the storm, the one who reminds them that they are not alone. Because love, in its purest form, is about being there, despite everything. Not just when it’s convenient, not just when it’s easy, but especially when it’s hard.

This is what a real connection looks like—not keeping score of who gave more, who apologized first, who was wrong or right. A true relationship isn’t a competition; it’s a partnership. It’s about choosing love, forgiveness, and presence even when it's not easy. It's about knowing that no one is perfect, that mistakes will be made, that pain will happen—but that love, real love, is choosing to stay and heal together rather than walking away.

Because in the end, relationships are not about who’s right or wrong, but about who refuses to let go. It’s about who holds on when everything feels like it's falling apart, who believes in the bond more than in their pride, and who chooses love—every single day.

Good Morning! Greetings from Washington DC, and the White House!

I sent this to the hundreds of Jehovah’s Witnesses I was hiding from.

Good Morning!

It has been so long since I have talked to any of you, and to be honest, I was shocked that so many reached out to me to invite me to the memorial. Perhaps that was an indication of your love. This message is an expression of my love; for justice, ethics, and standing for the correct thing.

One of the things that woke me up and motivated me to leave was how in-depth the elders focused, obsessed, and oppressed those who were experiencing an LGBTQ+ crisis. I felt this personally, and I wish I had not been afraid to displease them.

Do not be on the wrong side of history. Do not allow someone who has no stake in the fight for authenticity to establish your feelings towards a world that you do not know, as they do not have the credentials to do so. And if you know these worlds and the hell that they can be, choose to be kind and show beauty and love. And even if you cannot do that, then just remain silent and do not add to the problem.

If you are facing an LGBTQ+ crisis yourself, know you are whole, beautiful, and loved. Attached are some pictures and links to my new family.

I won’t bore you with what I have been doing in life, but know this: I have been building something beautiful and bigger since I left, and I don’t sit idle. I hope you have grown and improved since we parted ways. Your sons and daughters and loved ones will remember how you behaved, how you loved, and how your love is conditional. It won’t be forgotten by anyone.

Oh, and if any of you choose to invite me again to the memorial, it isn’t appreciated. Never do that again. I never even considered sharing my values back until you all reached out to invite me to the memorial. I realized I had just as much right as you do to communicate my truth. We can both proselytize and express our ideals, and that’s exactly what I have dedicated my life to now, in part because of my experiences with you. So thank you for empowering me even if you never intended to.

Goodbye, and please reevaluate your life. Perhaps in time, you will find that your ‘best life ever’ will change to ‘I thought that was my best life? Whatever!’
