Bruce Ackley weilds the sonic sceptres known as clarinet, soprano and tenor sax, alongside Dave Brandt on percussion and Pete Schmitt on bass to form the trio Dymaxion. Schmitt and Brandt play together in Wall of Fog and with a wide array of collaborators that have included Jessica Pavone, Burton Greene and on this ocassion Bruce Ackely, founding member of Rova Saxophone Quartet. Ackley is a self-taught woodwinds virtuoso whose collaborators have included John Zorn, Eugene Chadbourne, Ikue Mori, Fred Frith, Miya Masaoka and the members of several epic orchestras assembled by Rova to perform Coltrane's "Electric Ascension."

As someone who spent some of his misbegotten youth in the early 90s in San Fransisco, and specifically in the Lower Haight, the original Mad Dog in the Fog is one of the places I spent some time in. I enjoyed this little time capsule of the old spot and I'm glad the original owners found a nice place to be after they sold.
