A half-moon shines pallidly in a blue sky, faint from early rising. Dark grey maria, faintly tinged with blue, make a familiar pattern on the upper half of the surface of this waxing half-moon. Along the lower and upper edges of the terminus, the sharp edges of craters are clearly visible.

#Moon Games

A telephoto snapshot captures a small mountain church under a waxing crescent Moon, lit by both floodlights and sunlight reflected off the Moon. Taken near Danta di Cadore, Italy, the scene highlights the #lunar dayside just after sunset.

Micrometeoroid Impact Rate Analysis for an Artemis-Era #Lunar Base: arxiv.org/abs/2511.04740 -> "a shielded lunar base would experience 0.024--0.037 penetrating impacts per year [...] the lunar poles are optimal for sustained habitation [...] and [...] current shielding technology can reduce micrometeoroid threats by nearly five orders of magnitude, making long-duration lunar habitation feasible."

Even the #fullmoon offers some nice views: #lunar #crater Tycho and its bright ray system.

Crater Tycho is the large crater located near the center of the image. The top right corner shows the lunar limb with its irregular elevation profile.

Had some energy left last night and managed to get about 300 shots of the moon, 8 of which made it into the final stacked image.

I'm still happy about it, since the day before and today it's really cloudy. 🥳

Photo of the nearly fully illuminated moon in front of a dark black sky.
Image is reasonably sharp showing some of the moons craters in good detail.

The image shows some blue-ish and brown-ish hue on some planes and inside craters, which is caused by minerals and metals but cannot be seen with the naked eye, if not enhanced by a photo editor.

99% #Moon halo over the chimney last night, full-ish? 🤔 😆 #nightphotography #lunar #nightskyphotography #scotland #photography

A night sky image. The low foreground is of a house roof, angled to the left and right, a pair of chimneys stand in the centre. Above the chimneys is a white full Moon with a bright halo around it in the hazy clouds. The tops of trees are silhouetted beyond the roof

#Lunar LOVE

Amateur astronomers in Japan found "L-O-V-E" on the Moon's surface by examining light and shadows along the terminator. The transient lunar letters, like the famous lunar X, appear only around the first quarter phase, with the next chance to see them on November 15.

Remembering this time four years ago and Luke Jerram's awe-inspiring 'Museum of the Moon' taking centre stage in Durham Cathedral.
The installation, which was some seven metres in diameter, was in place between 13 September and 11 November in 2021.
The surface of the inflated spere was made of a fusion of 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface.
Additional atmospheric moonlight and surround sounds were created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones.
I always thought that placing the installation above the cathedral's crossing, between the quire and the nave, was an inspired decision, creating some memorable imagery.
