Finally some updates! All the body routing is done. I still need to wind the pickups but they should look pretty sweet next to the Bubinga beauty rings I made for them. Good weekend. Got the neck ready to radius and fret. Ebony binding with w/b/w purfling to match the ebony head plate. Fingerboard is white limba with crushed opal inlays (except the alien, it's malachite). Now I need to start hollowing the body and get the neck joint. This will be set neck, not bolt-on.

Today was neck glue up day. Frets slots cut, inlay cut with the CNC and them stick it all together. An extra mahogany neck blank made a perfect clamping caul.

Fingerboard (white limba) was hand slotted then through the CNC for the first time. I'll be filling with something sparkly. Ebony head plate also glued up. I've had family in town so I haven't spent much time in the shop but I did get about 90 minutes today. Started with the truss rod. I taped up the black palm fingerboard trimmed it close with the band saw. When I hit it with the router, bad things happened. The palm turned into a splintery mess no matter how careful I was.

Plan B, slot a piece of purpleheart and start over. I also managed to get it routed for binding and the side bindings on. Turned into a pretty productive hour and a half. I think I like this better anyway. The flame binding, with just a sliver of purple blending with the birdseye is going to be amazing.

Started a new project over the weekend. It'll be a 30" scale 4 string bass. Body is black limba, with a birdseye neck and haven't quite decided fingerboard yet but probably leopardwood. #luthery #guitarbuilding #guitar #guitarmaker

I wanted a finish to really highlight the wood since I decided to go without color and I had a time constraint. It worked out well and I'll use it again but I still love my nitro. 🙂

Side note: I looked like a moron trying to play a few chords left handed so I could hear how it sounded.
