After much procrastinating, I finally dive into the recapping work on the Mac Classic that was a $30 FB Marketplace rescue. Watch me as I attempt to remove old electrolytic capacitors from this 1990 Macintosh Classic logic board.

So that’s #Wayland using both AMD internal GPU and Nvidia 3050 in low-end Chinese eGPU. As you can see Wayland lets you move your windows around across GPUs in a smooth way X11 doesn’t (X11 needs to recopy each frame via the master GPU for historical reasons ).

KDE is actually cool (who’d have thought?) ! With Window Rules you can tell the Amiga & Mac Emulators + CoolRetroTerm to stay in the back, acting like interactive live backgrounds.

I wanted pico mac to be able to run at the top resolution that the RP2350 can handle reliably: 1280x720@50Hz HD. Oh, and the emulated mac is running with 4MB of RAM.

behold! it superficially works.

while I was getting ready to push this to my forks of pico-mac & umac I got a crash in the debugger that may just be due to extensive overclocking? I dunno yet. so, sadly, you can't grab & try it yet.

I'm off to do some IRL stuff but I hope to get this pushed soon.

So a thing happened today!

After researching, watching videos, procrastinating, watching more videos, talking to friends, drinking lots of coffee, and did even more procrastinating, I removed leaky caps from a #MacClassic system board! This was my first attempt at removing caps from a board. Not too bad.

Dealing with C2 and C8 are going to be “fu”n. 🤣😇

On hand I have distilled water, Dawn liquid dish soap, and 70% IPA.

What do you use? How long and how much heat?

Well, it seems to be working! Apparently I did not fuck up the redesign!

For those that just tuned in, the MiniPerformer+ accelerator is just a smaller remix of the #Macintosh Performer reversed by Bolle. This version is dedicated to the #MacintoshPlus, especially to be used on the clone I built for myself (thanks to @DosFox who made it possible).

It's an accelerator with a ~16Mhz 68030 CPU and an optional 68882 FPU, that's it. No onboard memory, but still a good speed bump for an old machine.

I'll now test it one or two days, check that it is stable like the rev.1 and release it for all to use!
