J'ai fait une mise à jour de ma #mageia cauldron, je dois être pas loin de l'état de la première version alpha.
Premier constat #xfce que ce soit en version X11 et #wayland est complètement cassé, j'ai été contraint de basculer sur #plasma wayland. Sur mon portable j'ai dû désactiver la veille longue durée, il en ressortait jamais et j'étais obligé de stopper le PC. Mon écran sous plasma wayland sur mon thinkpad
Gestern den Laptop eines 75-Jährigen in der Nachbarschaft auf #Linux (#Mageia) umgestellt. Er will darauf testen, ob er auch seinen Haupt-Desktoprechner auf Linux umstellt, nachdem dort Microsofts automatischer Upgrade auf Windows 11 stecken blieb.
Nun freut er sich erst einmal, dass er den Laptop wieder richtig nutzen kann, der noch mit Windows 7 im Keller stand, weil auch er unter Windows nicht mehr richtig funktionierte.
Alle Hardware (Bluetooth, Netzdrucker etc.) wurde von Linux erkannt.

Bueno gente, tengo que anunciar una baja en el frente. la #Acer ES1533 hoy tuvo una falla en el disco duro y no bootea su #Mageia. Ha servido con honores estos últimos 7 años y por el momento no tengo recursos para arreglarla.
Así que vamos a recordarla en sus tiempos mozas, corriendo pesados programas de diseño 3D en su windows 10 con licencia y actualizada.
This is a CDE on Mageia 9. It took me several hours and consultations with friendly people on Mageia forums to make it work.
CDE is very archaic so I had to rebuild the whole Motif library reverting some recent patches before compiling CDE itself. My tiny HP Stream 14 laptop with Intel N3060 CPU had a hard time building this monstrosity.
Now the hardest part comes: figuring out why I did this and what do I actually do with it.

I liken #Mageia to Debian, except they actually keep certain packages like yt-dlp updated for a release's lifespan, so that yt-dlp isn't broken due to being 3 years out-of-date.
Like Debian, it's also community-driven, and is "ready when it's ready". And I find the community extremely friendly, and it's easy to contribute to the project. However they don't have as good of a release cadence as Debian, due to manpower issues.

You have yt-dlp available in Debian backports too. The only difference is that you have to manually switch the package to track the backports version.
