The image depicts a black-and-white scene with six men outside what seems to be an entrance, possibly of a communal or cultural building. The doorway has decorative elements such as carved figures above it. In front of the door stands one man in casual attire and another partially visible behind him wearing dark clothing.

To the right side of the frame, three men sit on wooden benches against a wall adorned with circular decorations at the top. They are dressed formally or semi-formally; two wear hats indicative of traditional Māori headwear known as "korowai," while one is in a suit and tie. The man farthest to the right wears glasses.

Behind them, a banner hangs on what appears to be a window frame with symbols such as crescent moons, crosses, plus signs, and letters spelling out "+WI." This suggests an affiliation or celebration related to Ringatu, which has cultural significance in New Zealand's Māori community. The setting is outdoors during daylight.

The photograph captures the essence of camaraderie among these individuals amidst a moment seemingly connected with their cultural heritage.

The image captures an intimate moment in the Turangawaewae Marae, showcasing a traditional Maori setting. A group of people is gathered around what appears to be a table covered with patterned cloth or blankets. The individuals are engaged in various activities such as sitting and interacting with each other.

In the foreground on the right side stands a young girl wearing a dress, seemingly curious about something off-camera. In front of her, several pairs of shoes are scattered on the ground, suggesting that some people might have taken them off before entering this communal space. The setting is outside under a sheltered area with intricate wooden carvings adorning the walls and pillars.

The photograph has an aged appearance, indicating it was likely taken in early times when black-and-white photography dominated. This particular image may be from Turangawaewae Marae or another similar Maori community event depicted by Ans Westra's portfolio on Māori culture.
