Since 2015, #WaterBuffalo have been grazing in the #Marshland of the Tegeler Fließtal in #Berlin, part of the #European #Natura2000 network of protected areas.
Their wide-spread hooves do not sink into swampy ground, and by grazing wet lowlands, they ensure that their special vegetation is preserved, and that these landscapes do not become overgrown with trees and shrubs. Because buffalo like to wallow, new places are also created where amphibians and many insects feel at home.

The aquatic plant Bacopa reflexa (Benth.) Edwall (Plantaginaceae) is sometimes considered the only species of genus Benjaminia, due to its submerse, finely divided leaves and calyx characteristics. In our region of the Amazon coast it had already had been collected almost 70 years ago, and we were able to confirm that it is still around in ponds and flooded seasonal marshland near Bragança-Pará.
