A pair of teens next to me started talking mockingly about how ridiculous masking is in 2025 and in the heat.
I ignored them, as one does on #Berlin public transport.
As they kept chatting, they went there:
"How long has it been since COVID?" "I don't know, my entire class just recently had it." "Yeah, and I can still feel it in my lungs."
I don't think the ridicule worked out as they had planned to.
@beadsland Masks actually prevent infections, covid vaccines don’t (except for maybe 2 months). What do you mean “stop gap measure”?
I haven’t been able to get a Covid vaccine since the booster crashed me hard in November 2021, I’ve never had Covid. I know this for a fact because I have MECFS and the slightest bit of sickness will mess me up (plus I have taken at least 79 covid tests in 5 years all negative.) I crashed for weeks because I had a mild ear infection I would not have an asymptomatic covid infection.
Everyone I know who’s had two, four, six, even eight Covid vaccines has had Covid at least once because they stopped wearing a mask.
I’m not anti-vax, I hope y’all get 20 covid vaccines if that’s what you want. I just need you to know that it’s not going to stop you from getting Covid if you refuse to wear a mask.

Another reminder that words matter.
There’s an increasing and concerning push to label maskers as “bad”
We keep hearing that “only criminals wear masks”
Now ICE agents are “wearing masks” while kidnapping and disappearing people.
The result is that “masks” takes on a negative connotation in the public sphere, which makes surviving as a high risk disabled person so much harder.
We already have mask bans in some States and counties. More bills are on the table.
We need to normalize masking as a public health tool now, before it’s too late.
Please wear a respirator like an N95.
It’s a symbol of resistance and you need your health to fight the fascists!

The anti-mask rhetoric has caused untold harm to disabled people.
Mask bans have already been enacted in many places.
We must fight for our right to continue wearing medical masks & respirators.

I need to celebrate this win somewhere and none of my friends care about this stuff, but I FINALLY got maintenance at this apartment complex to understand and accept that they will not be allowed in my apartment without masks, no exceptions.
It only took five years, me buying signs to put on both doors (they have been there since the summer of 2021), and me slamming the door in their face and locking it before they finally realized this is not negotiable.
I’m a little nervous that the two guys coming tomorrow will take their masks off as soon as I go in my bedroom and shut the door leaving them to do their thing, but my plan is to look like crap & cough a lot so I scare them. I know that’s not nice but you gotta do what you gotta do.

On a fairly full bus last week, it was noticeable that no-one sat next to me. Someone was standing in the aisle not far away.
I was secretly thinking: "Are you not sitting down here because you think the mask means I'm infectious? I'm the least likely person on this whole bus to give you a germ! It's everyone else you should be worried about!"
