My May the 4th LEGO gifts to myself. Just finished assembling the X-Wing.

Fun fact: this is the 2nd iteration of the Ultimate Collector Series X-Wing I’ve owned. Sold the other one not long after building it in 2013. This one I will not sell if I can help it.

It’s huge, and yes, the stand is backwards. Otherwise it points up and all you see is the very uninteresting underside.

Anyway. It makes me happy to gaze upon.

"Measuring 5.47 meters in length, the Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor was a highly maneuverable combat-oriented starfighter utilized by the Jedi Order to lead troops in battle during the final days of the Clone Wars. As with earlier Jedi starfighters, the ship lacked a hyperdrive and relied on an external hyperspace transport ring to reach hyperspace. Despite this, it was faster than its Aethersprite predecessor, with ion engines providing a maximum acceleration of 5,200G and a max speed of 1,500 kph. The Eta-2 featured wings with upper and lower radiator panels, S-foils, that were opened to shed excess heat from the ship's engines. The radiator wings were primarily opened during intense combat. The ship was piloted by a single pilot, with the assistance of a single externally mounted astromech droid for navigation and repair assistance. For offense, the ship featured two laser cannons and two ion cannons. 55 years ago this week I bought this t-shirt for $5 in Lawrence KS. That was the week after 4 students were killed at an anti-Vietnam protest at Kent State. I was finishing my sophomore year at university, and the shirt was new then. It ss a bit old and worn today (just like me).

That was a very polarized period in the history of this country, as is the current era. I will be amazed (and grateful) if we get out of this one without protestors being shot. Students are still targets (especially international students), but lots of others have targets on them today. And lawlessness at the top is even more pronounced than it was in 1970.

I do wish that the the arc of history would bend in the direction of justice just a little faster. But the struggle continues.
