does anyone know how to have the "metadata box" in mediawiki?
(I'm exploring a few wikis as a total beginner and struggling to get this kind of thing working)
I'm happy to try other wikis if they make this easier

I'd like to try a wiki tool - like mediawiki or confluence.
Are there hosted solutions that allow me to try for free for a short period - eg a couple of weeks?
Specifically I want to test:
1. structured pages / templates
2. how good the built-in search engine is
3. UI for accessibility and design

Huh, that was easier than I thought it would be.
I converted the majority of MediaWiki formatting to Markdown or Gemtext, including all the templates and tables.
The big things remaining are internal links. I wrote a hacky script to convert wiki links into markdown links. The external links worked, but, due to a variety of issues I couldn't figure out, the majority of internal links came out broken.
(And by "Broken", I don't mean the book

I think I am going to have to convert most links manually. Closely tied to this task is the big decision I have to make: do I want to use markdown or gemtext? Links are the major incompatibility between the two formats.
There are still many Things to Do to make the wiki a great reference, but we are making progress.

TIL that
1) sed modifies binary files as if they were text.
2) Some webp images contain strings that could be mistaken for pieces of MediaWiki syntax.
On a totally unrelated note, a bunch of images in Pandora's Tale Wiki were corrupted. They should be fixed now.

Another slew of AI crawlers hitting DProofreaders this weekend, this time our #MediaWiki instance. Thanks to our prior work -- and the MW file cache -- the server is still up and serving traffic but the average CPU load increased by 6x and the server is running very hot.
Shout-out to the MW community who put together https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Handling_web_crawlers -- the Lockdown extension is now installed and doing a stellar job of restricting expensive pages to authenticated users.

自己的 wiki (MediaWiki) 是唯一的作者，所以 XSS 類的問題就先暫時不考慮，目標是增加 元素可以讓我引用外部字型，也就是我希望用 @import url()。 一開始找到的是 Extension:CSS，但從程式碼裡面的 Hooks.php 這邊可以看到不允許 @import，就只好放掉... 後來找到的是 Extension:HTML Tags 這套，裝好後設定允許 這個標籤，就可以塞東西進去了，但這個方法還是有不少 security risk，主要還是因為我是唯一的作者才能這樣玩。 現在可以在頁面上直接讀一堆 fonts 進來玩了... …
