@linos That's so cool! I'm not too familiar with what she plays, but I must've watched or listened to Shadows And Light a couple dozen times by now... if you have any more recommendations, I'd love to hear 'em :D
For those who don't know – Shadows And Light is her 1980 Live album featuring many of the same tunes, supposedly recorded while on tour with #Mingus. It's a playful but deeply touching collaboration with The Persuasions and several Jazz icons – including Michael #Brecker, Pat #Metheny and Jaco #Pastorius. Over the course of about 80 minutes, #Joni and the others make you feel just about every emotion there is.
When I watched it for the first time, I was honestly a bit offended – it felt like when a friend excitedly recounts an outing that you would've _loved_ to be a part of – had anybody told you ahead of time :l
I felt I'd missed out & I don't want y'all to feel that way. Here's to the long-running conversation between #Jazz and #Folk – Cheers! ^^

Back in for my second round of chemo. Doc said I was so far ahead of the norm in my response to the first round that he's confident two to three more rounds that I'll "never be bothered by this again."
Huge shoutout to the medical, nursing, and support staff here at Duke. Incredibly competent, professional, and supportive. I should add that they're a magnificent example of diversity.

On his latest release, #PatMetheny plays a special built Linda Manzer Baritone Nylon String Guitar, creating a different sound palette and a lazy mood, and playing some covers and some old and new #Metheny music. Wonderful.
What’s fantastic about this approach is you don’t have to learn any theory.
The theory reveals itself as you play.
After which you’ll have a thirst for more.
Because it works.
It sounds great.
And you now own your whole guitar, frets 0-12 and beyond.
Merry Christmas!

Just learn the three patterns from the TAB provided.
Get the G, C, F and Bb runs down at any comfortable speed.
Go one at a time, then practice fitting them together, then looping them.
You’re going to sound amazing in no time.
Then—and only then—read the item and do the suggested work to build in the remaining eight arpeggiated runs.
They all use one of the same three patterns.

Now, here’s the payload.
Below is a link to an intriguing story about how jazz great Pat Metheny practices.
Again, do not tell yourself you can’t do this because Metheny’s name is attached to it—I’m shit, and if I can do it, so can you.
And ignore the ‘chops/theory intermediate’ BS.
It’s beginner.
You don’t even have to read the text.

So, an arpeggio has fewer notes than the scale from which it is drawn.
It’s the same as any chord you might already know.
And it sounds beautiful because it’s harmonized.
Which is what music is all about, right?
Think of every arpeggio, simple as it is, like a barbershop quartet.
Or better.

Everyone wants to be able to play up the fretboard.
There’s some sweet stuff up there—we know cuz we’ve heard it.
But how to get there?
CAGED is a great way to go. To search & learn = to never regret.
But, you can open up the fretboard and sound incredibly musical even before working on the five basic patterns of CAGED.

The world is crap, so here’s a gift for all the amateur guitarists out there, struggling, like me, to get to grips with the instrument.
Might as well practice and play while the house burns down, right?
First, the most important bit:
This is easy stuff, perfect for beginners, so don’t let Metheny’s name put you off—if I can do this, you can do this.

The world is grim.
I thought I’d post a about a hobby of mine for change: amateur music done rather poorly, but from which I draw much satisfaction all the same.
Because timing has long been my nemesis (the ADHD brain so often can’t help itself leaping ahead of the beat to the next phrase), I decided to take up bass a while back to improve my guitar playing.
