My microgreens seem to be doing great. I made a little salad, with several kinds of greens, including a few lemon basil seedlings. They make the salad taste amazing. A bit of cheese and a few slices of rotisserie chicken breast, and I had a nice meal. #microgreens #indoorGarden

I have been growing microgreens for years. Over and over, the problem has been mold. Real mold, not just root hairs. I've tried SO MANY different things! This latest attempt adds a pump/timer system. I'm hoping that adding very little water at a time, down into the medium might work. My sweetie cut all the tubing and got the timer set. I just set up two DIY microgreen trays, one of red cabbage (again) and one for the first time of sunflowers.

My first batch of red cabbage was over-successful: I put in too many seeds and it was a veritable red cabbage thicket. Lesson learned: I used fewer seeds this time

I also put seeds directly on my coir mats before, and then couldn't get the roots out esily after harvest. So this time it's: mat, paper towel, seeds, paper towel, dark cover. We shall see! 1/2

New microgreen adventures!

I started growing microgreens with a kit from Hamama. Their seed quilts are not cheap, but they do make beautiful ceramic trays (in addition to their plastic gear). I wanted a non-plastic option and an easy start.

I have saved the coconut coir mat from the bottom of every quilt.

Every month or so, I grow a tray of microgreens for my own use in salads, on sandwiches, etc. And every once in a while, I try a new crop species to change it up.

This is my first attempt at celery greens, and overall, I give them a C-. Between their small yield (about 1/4 the weight I get from the same tray of radish or mustard) and about twice the grow time, I don't see a great return. If you REALLY like celery flavor and scent, it might be worth it, but certainly not in the top 5 I'd recommend anyone start with.

Pretty, though.

This is only my second time mixing seeds for microgreens, rather than growing a monoculture tray. I like the jungle look it gets, and the mix of flavors is nice, if a little less precise for specific recipes.

Ehemalige Tunfischdosen, gefüllt mit weißem Perlit und besät mit Kressesamen.

Perlit wird aus einem Beutel in eine Dose umgefüllt, wobei es ordentlich staubt, trotz dass das Material mit "2x gesiebt und somit fast staubfrei" beworben wurde.

Drei Kokosnusshälften, gefüllt mir Kokossubstrat und mit Kressesamen besät. Leider bildet sich überall Schimmel.

Drei leere Kokosnusshälften, ein gepresster Ziegel mit Kokossubstrat, ein Einlitereimerchen mit Wasser und eine übertrieben große Tüte voller Kressesamen harren auf ihren Einsatz.

Das Kokossubstrat ist eine Stunde nach dem Einweichen gut aufgequollen, die abgeschätzte Menge war scheinbar gar nicht mal so falsch.

Von hier an geht's indoor weiter: Das Substrat wurde fest angedrückt und kann besät werden.

Alle 3 Nüsse sind besät, jeweils unterschiedlich dicht, um herauszufinden, was am - Achtung! - optimalsten ist.

Winzgrünlinge klingt doch besser aus #Microgreens, oder?
