After yesterday’s Mini-based Midas coupé, today we’re looking at its open-topped sister car, the Midas Gold convertible. This one was apparently purchased as a kit back in the day by its original owner but never quite finished. An opportunity for someone! Later Midas models were adapted to take Metro, rather than Mini parts. Note the Ascona/Cavalier rear lights. Snapped at the recent Practical Classics resto show. Bonus view of the coupé in pic 3.

"Vers la fin du XIXe siècle, la construction d'une voie ferrée dans le centre de la Turquie mène à une découverte inattendue : une citadelle vieille de 3 000 ans. Les archéologues révèlent, à leur grand étonnement, qu'il s'agit de la capitale de l'un des grands peuples de l'Antiquité : les Phrygiens. Selon la mythologie grecque, ce royaume aurait été gouverné par le roi Midas, qui avait le don de changer en or tout ce qu'il touchait. Et si cette légende avait un fond de vérité ? À son apogée, le royaume possédait en effet d'énormes richesses. Il occupait une grande partie de l'actuelle Turquie, et sa capitale, Gordion, était située au carrefour de l'Orient et de l'Occident : toutes les grandes routes de commerce passaient par cette ville. Par ailleurs, la Phrygie possédait de nombreuses ressources naturelles."
