FDA quietly approved a generic abortion pill ahead of shutdown 👍

“The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday quietly approved a generic form of #mifepristone, one of the two medications used in most U.S. abortions.

That makes the drug, from the company Evita Solutions, the second generic version to hit the market. The first, from pharmaceutical company GenBioPro, was approved in 2019.

Mifepristone is typically used in combination with another pill, #misoprostol, to induce abortions. Medication abortions account for nearly two-thirds of #abortion in the U.S.”

In the last few years, the broader medical community, including the World Health Organization, has declared self-managed abortion to be a safe and effective method in the first trimester. Many American doctors agree. In 2024, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists put out a statement in support of self-managed abortion. It called on doctors to educate themselves and provide support for patients who do it. Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe, the hotline has only grown. It now has dozens of volunteers, including clinicians as well as people who provide logistical support. The hotline gets thousands of calls and texts every month.

Zmiękcza szyjkę i wywołuje skurcze macicy, które prowadzą do wydalenia zarodka lub płodu wraz z krwią i skrzepami. Jednocześnie działa przeciwkrwotocznie, bo obkurcza naczynia krwionośne.

Misoprostol działa poronnie gdy wchłonie się przez śluzówkę, dlatego najpierw trzymamy go przez 30 minut w buzi (pod językiem/między dziąsłem a policzkiem), następnie połykykamy. Można go również zaaplikować dopochwowo.

ℹ️ Jeśli posiadasz zestaw aborcyjny - mifepriston i misoprostol, to najpierw połykasz mifepriston, w ciążach poniżej 12 tyg. czekasz 24h i używasz 4 tabletek misoprostolu. Po 12 tyg. czas między mife a miso wydłużasz do 36h, i używasz 12 tabletek misoprostolu, aplikując po 2 tabletki w dawkach co 3 godziny.
