I was hoping to be able to multitrack with my SP404 Mk2 sampler instead of having to fire up my computer. I wanted an out of the box setup, as I'm working on the computer during the day.

That is do-able but emulating a multitrack is a pretty clunky process in the SP404.

Getting the routing set up is also proving to be tricky.
My mixing desk has multitrack USB out so it's just so much easier to record individual channels into Bitwig. I will do some more experiments. Using the monitor sends from the desk to feed the SP404 works but it's not as convenient as soloing a channel and recording the control room send. Buuut sending the CR output into the SP404 makes it difficult to monitor the SP404 without creating some hellish howl round. Trying to avoid having to use two sets of headphones...

The device is nicely built and feels high quality. Of course the profit margin is high - this is not 40€ of parts, more like 5~10€.

As this is a passive mixer, the performance depends on source and sink impedance, so YMMV.

They just combine the audio paths with variable resistors and a small series resistor to avoid shorting the two sources.

After playing with it a bit, the main issue of this design is that changing volume on one channel affects the volume of the other channel. One channel loads the other minimally if it is set to 50% (highest impedance). One channel with bass kill enabled and volume set to min or max will actually boost bass of the other channel.

If a source disables its output driver (no audio, power saving) this will affect the volume of the other channel, too.

#TIL gooseneck #DJ #mixingdesk lamps that are advertised to operate at 48V actually do not operate at 48V. They want 48V phantom power = current limited 48V. As a result they run at ~12V and waste 3x their own power consumption inside the mixer. It makes sense to not plug a noisy switch mode power supply inside an audio mixer but the whole thing is still a bit silly.

First date of the #KoraWinter in #Altenburg was okay. Show was at #AntiFascist club #RoteZora with super nice staff!

#MixingDesk was next to and on top of the bar. 😅 Only 7 of 8 of #stagebox inputs were working, acoustic not so great, crowd was alright. Load-in and load-out happened via slide, which was a first for me.

First Gigs of a tour are always rough but this band is always delivering and the setlist is killer 💪
