Pixel art practice day 22, a monopod, as suggested by @bjoreman This was a funny vehicle I modeled in 3D Studio way, way back. I accidentally picked a 32x32 canvas for this one, but in a way I prefer drawing tiny images.

Now the Fuji X-T30 is not something I normally take video with, but as Karen got me a Neewer monopod (uk.neewer.com/products/neewer-) for my birthday last week and we were at the beach shooting, figured see if I could get useful footage off it.

Have a couple of tripods, which are great if planning to use, but this Monopod with the fold out feet is a really handy compact alternative to carry with me.

So what did I learn? Manual, turn the darn thing to manual 🤣 So, here's a bit of the waves, please excuse the colour hunt (auto was on and it wandered), will do better next time.

Joby Launches New Flexible Podzilla As Well As ‘Normal’ Tripods

Joby has announced an expanded line of budget-friendly tripods available in a variety of colors. A new compact and flexible Podzilla as well as a full-sized tripod and monopod systems.

Included in the compact lineup is a set of four systems: Compact Light, Compact Action, Compact Advanced, and a 2-in-1 Monopod. The Compact Light system includes a mount for smartphones whereas the rest of the lineup allows users the option to add a phone clamp separately.

The Podzilla will be a familiar design to those who have seen or used the GorillaPod system, perhaps the most iconic product ever made by Joby. The new compact tripod has a built-in ball head and an updated flexible leg design that is available in two size options (Medium and Large) and four colors (Teal, Red, Yellow, and Gray).

The company says the new product lineup is designed to ensure that content creators around the world have access to the very best in compact tripod options that are designed to be lightweight so they are easy to add to any mobile kit. The Podzilla uses an aluminum core that is tough, strong, and durable and is covered in a "grippy" rubber outer layer. Joby says the legs can fully articulate and are easy to position, providing creators with a stable and level platform for recording on nearly any terrain.

The new 2-in-1 Monopod can support up to a 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) kit on a system that weighs just over 0.6 pounds. The new monopod can use a pin-joint mount, or a compact ball head that can let the monopod double as a selfie stick.

Also included in the launch are three new "normal" and more traditional compact tripods: the Compact Light, Compact Action, and Compact Advanced Tripods. All of the Compact Tripods are designed to be user-friendly and easy to set up. The Compact Light tripod weighs just 1.78 pounds (0.81 kilograms) and supports up to a 3.3 pound (1.5 kilograms) kit making it ideal for mobile content creators. The Compact Action tripod uses an ergonomic joystick head with a scroll-wheel locking mechanism for increased sturdiness.

The Compact Advanced Tripod is designed to take compact mirrorless and DSLR cameras for Vloggers who need a little more power than their smartphones/action cameras and accessories can deliver. The company says the Compact Advanced system leverages much of the design and technology from the GorillaPod 3K like the QR BallHead that allows 3-way tilting and rotation for professional results. The Compact Advanced system supports up to a 6.6-pound payload (3 kilograms) and is available as a kit that includes a rotating phone clamp and cold shoe mounts on both ends for added versatility.

The new lineup of tripods are available now through the JOBY website with prices ranging from $39.99 to $149.99.

A Day In The Life of an F1 Photographer: Behind the Scenes

F1 photographer Kym Illman tries to clear up some of that mystery that surrounds his job and covers everything a prospective photographer would need to know to succeed in the racing world.

From an outside perspective, it can be both mysterious and bewildering to try and figure out how to get started in a chosen profession. Photographers are often asked what it's like to work in their particular field and the answers are always different. Illman tries to directly address that in the video above.

"Photographing F1 has been an absolute eye-opener for me so allow me to share with you some of the info that few others will," Illman says.

His explanations include detailing each item that he includes in the photographic kit he carries, how to use the Novation Launchpad Mini, and he even goes on to detail what goes into keywording the final edits of some of the images that come out of these incredible racing machines.

What many may not realize is the amount of travel involved for those who work in this particular industry, so Illman notes how important it is that photo equipment and associated gear are safe when moving from one location to the next. He explains that he actually packs away everything separately except one camera body, an 85mm lens, and his 600mm lens while those three items always accompany him in his carry-on aboard the plane. Doing this ensures he won't have any drama with weight restrictions on his luggage. Luckily, the official team photographers get to ship their gear along with the cars so they generally don't have to worry about lugging all the gear along with them from stop to stop.

For those who want to seek racing photography professionally, the video follows Illman as he goes through every step of a typical race-day workflow. He shows the tools he uses and the process involved in getting his images instantly uploaded to his servers back in Australia, how they are re-downloaded and edited to share on social media, and then how he organizes and stores the RAW and JPEG backups over the course of a race. This includes how he organizes his files with presets, keywording, and the use of programmable external editing decks to speak up the process.

This video is one of several that Illman has on his YouTube Channel, which is a trove of excellent information for those looking at racing photography as a career. For more from Illman, make sure to subscribe to his channel here.

Moza Launches 3-in-1 Slypod Pro: An Electric Slider, Monopod, and Jib

Moza has announced the launch of the compact and feature-packed Slypod Pro, a 3-in-1 monopod with an electric slider and a jib arm, which the company claims is the first of its kind.

Moza, a company that specializes in camera and smartphone stabilizers, and which also recently launched the Moin Camera, has announced an upgraded version of its original2-in-1 motorized slider and monopod, the Moza Slypod, which was first released in 2019.

The new Slypod Pro, which comes with the additional function of an extendable jib arm, is Moza's response to scenarios where photographers and videographers encounter the need to pack and carry cumbersome equipment -- from a tripod to a drone and everything in between -- to achieve high-quality filmmaking results.

The company claims this is the world's first electronic height adjustable monopod, which can be fully extended and also controlled with just one hand. Moza says that the result is that it can achieve "impossible angle shots, and puts ideas within reach so that filmmakers can go beyond the impossible to realize their full creativity."

The monopod has a durable carbon fiber body and, with a tri-legged support stand, it can be used on any surface, whether in a studio or outdoors. The lighter carbon fiber helps reach higher angles that otherwise would be difficult to achieve using a traditional slider or monopod. For easier transportation, it is lightweight at 1.46 kilograms (3.2 pounds) and can be collapsed to a compact size that can fit in a backpack. When fully extended, it reaches a total length of 138cm (54 inches) and allows tilting of up to 60 degrees.

The company claims that the smooth movement its monopod produces is thanks to the motor that is installed in its main body, which Moza says is able to achieve motion shots similar in quality to other sliders on the market. The monopod also acts as "an extendable jib arm to capture memorable time-lapse photography from any desired angle," while reducing the time required for setting up compared to other types of equipment combinations that would achieve a similar effect.

Alongside a straight-forward sliding motion, Moza says the Slypod Pro also supports macro photography setups, can reach high angles, create dynamic timelapses, capture start trail timelapses, dolly shots, and more.

To make the most of Slypod Pro, the accompanying Moza Master App gives users precise control over movement, variable speeds, and other functions, using a smartphone connected to the monopod. Slypod Pro claims to run up to 4 hours with a fully charged built-in battery but if you find yourself shooting for longer, it can also be charged with an external power supply and used continuously.

Although this monopod is presented as an all-in-one piece of kit, it is also compatible with most entry-level and professional cameras, both DSLRs and mirrorless, and other accessories, which opens up more opportunities for more complex setups. It can also be linked with Moza's own gimbal using the app for 4-axis motion control.

Slypod Pro campaign has so far crushed its initial Kickstarter goal with funding far above the initial ask. The Slypod Pro can be purchased for as low as about $460 through the campaign and is set to ship to backers in May.
