#FotoVorschlag: Federleicht // Light as a feather

Meine #Hühner werden aktuell um viele #Federn erleichtert, sie #mausern gerade, was das Zeug hält, und die beiden alten #Hennen sehen ganz gerupft aus (wächst aber jetzt alles schön nach, wie man sieht). Dazu Wind und Regen und seit heute ist auch noch Stallpflicht angesagt wegen der Vogelgrippe. Die Hühnis haben es gerade echt nicht (feder)leicht.

My #chickens are a lot lighter now, as they're losing so many #feathers. They're in the middle of #moulting and especially the two older #hens look a bit scruffy (their feathers are growing back nicely though, as you can see). There's also rain and wind and as of today, they have to stay cooped up due to avian flu. Apologies for the pity party, I just wanted to ... shed some light on the daily struggles of our feathery friends. 😋

I've seen so many #birds with mottled coloring on their heads this summer. Magpies, jackdaws, crows and pigeons. Is this normal? Recently I've also seen a few that look like their heads are #moulting. Any #ornithologist/s out there with thoughts?

We can see it in the fossils record and every where around us but it is largely understudied. Trying to understand the history and the diversity of gene families and expression of this trait around all arthropods. Doing exceptional work of comparing between 150 proteomes and 65 gene families. How do change occur in arthropoda?

Throwback to half a year ago, right in the middle of #moulting season. Some #crows rock the "worn out and burst sofa cushion" with more dignity than others.
I think Kräkrä wore a quite fashionable grunge look last year. Don't you think, too?
