Trying out a traditional recipe for Smoking Bishop (a type of mulled wine). The problem is that I've just noticed it now requires to be left for 24 hours before I add port, squeeze the fruit and strain, then heat gently and serve. I was hoping to enjoy some this afternoon. I guess I'll just have to have a beer instead.

If you're around on Christmas Eve, we'll be open from 9am until 8pm with some festive goings on before we put out the mince pies, carrots and whisky and hang up the Bruhaha stocking. We'll have mulled drinks, mince pies, boozy hot chocolate and at 4pm @breakoutvoices will be popping along to the brewpub with a special Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long.

Esta es posiblemente de las pocas cosas que me gustan de la Navidad. Me gusta tanto que hice esta ilustración (hace ya algunos años). En España es impensable que te pueda gustar beber alcohol caliente (otra de las cosas por las que echo de menos UK en Navidad).También porque allí es fácil entrar a un pub y pedir una. Los pubs deberían tener bebidas alcohólicas calientes en invierno, beber con hielo no tiene mucho sentido, pero bueno, la gente hace muchas cosas por inercia...

Today my adtech-stack is trying to convince me that mulled wine is something you make with "mulling spices", imagined as expensive little 1-2 ounce transparent packages with twee ribbon closures and priced at multiple dollars per ounce. Whereas in reality this is the highest and best use of all the dried-out elderly spices (whole or ground) in the back of your cabinet. Use 'em up and then buy nice fresh ones, packaged separately, if you must buy something!

Mulled wine update:

~two cups of the old box wine that I got for a buck.

~one cup of apple juice.

~a tablespoon of frozen orange juice concentrate.

One dehydrated orange slice. Enough stick cinnamon. Two old cloves. About a fifth of an old nutmeg, minced.

Bring to a high simmer. Turn off heat to avoid boiling off any alcohol. Steep 5-10 minutes. Stir in a couple of shots of spirits (brandy is best but any will do). Add honey or sugar to taste.

Serve in mugs.
