The split and fold trick from the #multiboard folks is a pretty slick way to improve layer orientation.
I've split and glued before or made multipart assemblies to get the "correct" layer orientation, but this seems very cheap and easy to maintain alignment of the split parts

And to close this thread: I got completely tired with all the mess around Underware vs openGrid vs MultiBoard and completely gave up on that project. Bought a cheap tray from Amazon, three screws, a few minutes of combing cables and done. I may (or may not) look at MultiBoard again in the future for some vertical/wall organization, but I'm done with the under the desk project.

Ahhhhhh! Analysis Paralysis! I've fallen down the rabbit hole of wall organization systems. It is dark down here and I landed on something that is cold, squishy, and moving. The walls are closing in.
First, I was going to buy a bunch of Ikea pegboard, but, wtf, they are all sold out unless I want to drive to Yokahama and burn a half day on the road. Nope.
Then, I discovered #HSW (Honeycomb storage wall) and #Multiboard. I can print my own! MB looks stronger, but crippled by license. Uhg
Aujourd'hui, rangement du futur atelier "gros projets".
Et en bonus, si j'ai le courage, meulage et perçage de l'ancien support à bobine de l'imprimante 3D. Il va être reconvertit en support à extrudeur, en attendant de pouvoir faire un support moins "#bricolol" (soit en impression 3d, soit en tôle d'alu pliée).
Une fois que ça sera fait, restera la migration de l'imprimante et de son raspi 4 vers #klipper & #mainsail.
La on sera bien pour la seconde partie de l'amenagement de l'atelier : imprimer les pièces du système de rangement mural #multiboard.
I just finished printing another panel for my #multiboard workbench overhaul. It's super-quiet in my office, so after it finished printing, the print bed is cooling.
It's... very quietly crackling and settling as it cools and separates from t build plate.
It's like sitting next to a cozy fire.
The Wall Of Retro Expansion Pack is taking shape! Got a bunch more 3D printing of wall tiles and cartridge brackets to get done still.

This is the expanded version of my 3D printed Multiboard display for my model kits. All but 3 of my assembled kits are up there. It's a bit chaotic, but I definitely have more available wall space than floor space.

My 3D printing project to use Underware with openGrid is turning out to be a total nightmare. I need many different mounts for things in general, like power strips/supplies and docking stations, but all the mounts I have found were made for Multiboard, so not only they require adapters, but they don't match/align properly on an openGrid base.
I'm highly frustrated, and seriously considering trashing the 10 openGrid boards I already printed and screwed to my desk, then replacing them with Multiboard bases.
I honestly don't understand why the Underware website tells you to use openGrid boards. Feels like they're a good solution for running cables, but not for mounting anything, simply because the community that created the Multiboard mounts doesn't care about adapting them to openGrid. I don't blame them. If you created something, got it installed, and it is working well, there is little incentive to redesign everything.
Feels like I've been caught on the "xkcd standards" trap.
I've got an idea for the blank studio wall. Definitely gonna need more filament! 🤓

#Gridfinity isn't the greatest modular system, but it's good, and it has a ridiculously large ecosystem of things that have already been created for it.
#Multiboard https://www.multiboard.io/ is cool, and has a big following, but just ignores gridfinity's existence.
#OpenGrid https://www.opengrid.world/ also has some cool innovations, but it's only kinda-sorta compatible with an adapter and some caveats.

Mein modularer Sortimentskasten ist endlich fertig!!!
Ich verstehe jetzt meinen Kollegen, als er sagte, es gäbe Dinge, die er sich lieber fertig im Baumarkt holt ;-)
Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass dieses Projekt so viel Zeit und Material brauchen würde. Ich glaube ich habe innerhalb von 4 Wochen etwa 6 Rollen schwarzes Filament verdruckt, 3 Rollen grau, 1 Rolle transparent und das bisschen orange ist nicht der Rede wert. Filamentkosten alleine also etwa 150€.
Vorher hatte ich 3 Kästen aus dem Baumarkt, wovon 2 (schief) an der Wand hingen, und einer in der Ecke stand, weil ich keinen Platz dafür gefunden hatte. Jetzt hab ich die in einem Großen vereint, der zusätzlich auch noch viele unterschiedlich große und besser passende Schubladen hat, sowie zahlreiche Spezialschubladen für Dinge, die vorher irgendwo rumlagen. Und es ist alles ordentlich sortiert und beschriftet.
Das Teil ist jetzt insgesamt 85 cm hoch, 40 cm breit und 14 cm tief. Es ist allerdings modular aufgebaut und besteht aus einzelnen Kästen, die fast alle jeweils 20 x 15 cm groß sind, passend für ein #Multiboard. Nur die großen Schubladen ganz unten haben ein anderes Format, passen aber ebenfalls ans Multiboard. Bei Bedarf kann ich sie anders anordnen, an ein anderes Multiboard hängen, oder durch weitere Kästen erweitern.
Ich finde, es hat sich gelohnt, bin aber echt froh, dass es fertig ist 🙂
