Helmmycena (Mycena galericulata) treffen we in groepjes of solitair aan. De paddenstoel groeit op dood loofhout dat we boven en onder de grond aantreffen.

Common Bonnet (Mycena galericulata) occurs in groups or solitary. The mushroom grows on dead deciduous wood, which we find above and below the ground.

When looking at mushroom time slows down. The longer I look, the more I see and the more significant smalls seem to become. I don't know what the name of this little creature is except for being a mycena.

Mycena Mushroom Releasing Spores

I had long wanted to make the distribution of spores visible. Today, I succeeded. I used my headlamp as a backlight and took the photo with a Nikon Z8 and a 105 mm macro lens at F8.0.

Close-up photo of a delicate pale mushroom with a thin stem and pleated gills, likely from the genus Mycena. Spores are visibly drifting away in a mist-like cloud illuminated against a dark, bluish background, creating a starry-night effect.

It's that time again... Another volume of Theatrum Fungorium is going to the printers! #sciart #mycena #mushroom #coloring_book

An undescribed bioluminescent Mycena from Mycena sect. Sacchariferae, closely related to Mycena asterina found a few days ago in Monteverde, Costa Rica. Like Mycena asterina, only the cap glows.

Mycena sp. 'amicta-HRL01' - A species in the Mycena amicta group with only two observations on iNaturalist, both in the east bay area, California, USA. This species has blue colors on the lower stem, an amazing stem texture due to abundant caulocystidia and a separable gelatinous pellicle.

Collected November 23, 2020 on the UC Berkeley campus and sequenced recently by @mycota.lab.

A tiny Favolaschia found yesterday in Monteverde, Costa Rica. These are basically in Mycena and will probably be moved into Mycena soon - the alternative is to split Mycena up into a whole bunch of similar looking genera.

Artists discover a new glowing #mushroom in Switzerland phys.org/news/2025-01-artists-

Is the #bioluminescence in many #Mycena species overlooked? ― A case study from M. crocata in Switzerland jstage.jst.go.jp/article/mycos by Renate Heinzelmann et al.

"the decaying wood M. crocata grows on can also emit a green glow when split open, lasting up to 4 hours... While some glowing #mushrooms might attract #insects to disperse spores, the bioluminescence of hidden #mycelium does not fit this hypothesis"

Incredibly tiny Mycena sp.

Even more drops on this one, almost look like the white spots on a fly agaric

@wonderofscience Edibility alert! 🚫🍄 It's advised not to eat these, as many mushrooms in the genus Mycena are poisonous. Mycena interrupta is too small to be suitable for any meal, and despite its appearance, the only "superpower" it might grant you is a one-way ticket to death. Stay safe! #MushroomSafety #Mycena #PoisonousMushrooms #NatureAwareness

Genomic Innovation in the #Arctic: How Mycena #Fungi Adapt and Thrive
scitechdaily.com/genomic-innov paper: cell.com/cell-genomics/fulltex

"While the #mushrooms had been thought to be purely saprotrophic – degrading dead organic material – the discovery suggests that they may instead have genes to enable them to adapt to different lifestyles as circumstances change. Interestingly, they show certain #Mycena strains living in the Arctic have some of the largest mushroom #genomes ever described."
