Really interesting read from #ManvirSingh gathering evidence that #ayahuasca is not as old or #Indigenous as it is made out to be. The tales tourists want to hear...

'Brabec de Mori argues that ayahuasca diffused through the Peruvian Amazon in the past 300 years. It is likely older among Tukanoan peoples further north, who, he suspects, transmitted the practice to populations missionised early in the lowlands. Yet in the regions most frequented by tourists, it seems to be a relative novelty. Brabec de Mori isn’t the first to make the argument – the anthropologist Peter Gow proposed something similar in 1994 – but he, more than anyone else, has found the anthropological data to support it.'

We definitely believe Peter Gow (who saw the equivalency of menstrual girls to shamans. Ayahuasca use tends to push women out)

Many believe, “I don’t have time for Personal Knowledge Management (PKM).”

The truth? PKM saves time. Yes, it takes some upfront effort, but small, consistent steps lead to compounding benefits: faster retrieval, better learning, less wasted work.

Fact: Effective knowledge management is a time-saver, not a time-waster. It saves time in the long run. When integrated intentionally, PKM increases efficiency, supports systematic learning, and delivers lasting “thinking dividends.”

Wilson assembles a worthy-enough fantasy in a terrific setting: ancient Sumer. Even so, the liberties she takes with the original myths undermine their complexity and cater to contemporary markets.

Today's Flickr photo with the most hits was taken in Sebasteion Museum, Aphrodisias, Turkiye. It shows Aeneas leaving Troy, carrying his father, Anchises.

@YakyuNightOwl

I'm starting to wonder if open spaces can be safe or if safe spaces can be open.

I wonder if we need both types of space, for both types of people.

It may well be that Bluesky is safer than the #fediverse as a whole. It probably is for some people.

I think there's a #myth - on both sides actually - that there no friction between safety and freedom, but I think there is.

Very few people really like the #freedom of #anarchy and very few people like the safety of a police state.

But between the two there is quite a continuum with a pretty flat distribution curve.

Some of those people need the safety of Bluesky and some of them need the raucous agression of telegram groups.

Maybe we can't all be on the same network.

I haven't been #semantic, but I guess I've been guilty of being philosophical.
