My (co-authored with beloved collaborators and friends) paper, ‘Revisiting insider practices: Ethical considerations, practices, and hopes for doing community work and narrative research in and about our own communities’, is up! I’m really proud of this paper, and the ongoing work it describes. nsuworks.nova.edu/tqr/vol29/is

I'm running a Solstice-to-end-of-calendar-year writing group. I've been running this every year for the last five-ish years - it's always really soft and lovely to have some invitations to write and a couple low-pressure zooms at a time that can be really isolating and sad. I send out writing or reflection prompts each day, and we have three optional zooms. (Opening, mid-way, closing.)

It’s the last day of the #narrativetherapy conference. Even though I’ve been careful with my energy - only going to half the workshops, making sure I’m sleeping as much as I can, staying on top of pain meds - the pace of these three days has been gruelling and I am exhausted, brain fogged and sore. This is not a #disabillity friendly schedule and it’s so clear that access was not a priority in any way. I’m glad I came and I have some ideas to take back, but there’s a huge cost.

I'm facilitating a half-day workshop on externalizing in narrative therapy on Nov 2, and I think it will be a nice time. There's early bird pricing until Oct 12. groundfireccw.ca/narrative-wor

I was invited to write a response to a new paper about #NarrativeTherapy and #BPD and it’s been published! I’m pretty happy with it.

Groundfire Counselling and Community Work is officially launching in September, and I'll be facilitating #NarrativeTherapy workshops and groups (my colleagues will be offering the counselling). The first one is a consultation and practice cohort running from September to February. Are you a #narrative #therapist ? Do you want to talk with other narrative practitioners and stretch your practice? That's a thing we'll do! You can find more info here groundfireccw.ca/npcp-cohort-2

I'm pretty excited.

Beware the Tenderfoot’s dark side. This is how to avoid getting "possessed" by your submissive shadow.

I’m taking Megan Devine’s ‘grief care for clinicians’ course and I’m enjoying it. I appreciate the refusal to pathologize grief, and the constant reminders that the way we think grief ‘should’ be are very far from the way grief is, and that these ideas are hugely informed by anti-grief bias. The non-pathologizing approach fits well with my #NarrativeTherapy. #grief #therapy #therapist

The collective document that has been in process for almost two years now is public, and included in the latest edition of the International Journal of Narrative Therapy and Community Work, along with an audio practice note introducing the project.

“Not to fix anything, but just to offer a millimetre of relief or breath or humour or companionship”: A collective document about caring for trans community

Later this month, I’m presenting a 2.5 hour section within a two day training on #NarrativeTherapy approaches to #trauma. I’m presenting on collective narrative practice and making my slides this morning. Collective narrative practice is my favourite thing, but it’s (maybe not surprisingly) really hard to compress what I love about it and what I’ve learned about it into 2.5 hours.

I'm running a solstice-to-end-of-year #narrativetherapy #writing #prompt course again this year. I ran versions in 2020 and 21 - it was nice!

It's called The Light Returning, it's all online, and if you'd like, you can register here - tiffany-sostar.thinkific.com/c

The last part of the calendar year can be tough for lots of reasons, especially for folks who are distant from or not accepted by family, or grieving, or isolated.

This is for a specifically #NarrativeTherapy paper (and project) but I’m trying to cast a wide net in the lit review. I will obviously be talking about Michael White’s idea of ‘community assignments’ and what changes when we are within the community, but also wondering about other ways of thinking about this.

We ordered fancy breakfast today (we still don’t do restaurants because #covid but sometimes a pickup is nice!) and I tried the new ‘citrus mint cider’ because it sounded weird. It’s mint tea steeped in apple cider with a splash of lemon juice, and it’s delicious. I am finally feeling more like my preferred version of myself, which is nice because I’m facilitating the #trans and #nonbinary #narrativetherapy practitioner peer chat today and it’s one of my favourite things.

I expanded the questions in the "How we are standing in #solidarity with #trans folks" form, because I realized that the additional questions we talked about in the in-person conversations and interviews hadn't made it into the form. So, if you would like to contribute to this #collective #narrativetherapy project, the form is here - forms.gle/2KoL4y12P4YDpZN8A

Or I'm happy to interview you, too!

I am booking three days at the end of the month to finally write the first draft of this document.

I have #writing to do. An article on finances and families - how discourses of consumption and effects of capitalism harm families and put pressure on marginalized families, and some #narrativetherapy ideas for deconstructing those discourses and dignifying the stories of how families are resisting and responding to these harms. This article is already late to my editor. Yikes.

And a draft of the 'effects' section for a paper on a new narrative therapy practice that I am co-authoring.

One of the most meaningful community projects I've co-facilitated is the BPD Superpowers. tiffanysostar.com/bpd-superpow We finalized our collective doc three years ago and are getting ready to have some community conversations reflecting on what has changed, what we've learned, what we would say differently now. The rigorous critique of 'personality disorder' as a relevant label has grown, and I am SO excited to have that conversation. The second ed. will be shared next year. #bpd #narrativetherapy
