  1. Put a few layers of tape over both/all cameras (front/rear) before continuing to read this.
  2. Ideally print out and read on paper.
  3. If above not possible, read on a desktop or laptop, not on your phone/tablet...........@rainynight65 IMHO it's deliberate. #ExxonKnew why did they do a three-year study (1970-1973 ?) not merely proving (again), but detailing exactly what would happen? Effects of #climateEmergency : 1. Kills people directly &indirectly 2. Prompts #climateMigration , which 3. Move/crowds folks into smaller/denser areas, which makes us easier to 4. Control (in every respect including brainwashing) but also 5. Easier to kill large numbers, faster. ( See also #Gaza IsA #Prototype as are #Sudan & #Haiti & #Mexico & ...) 6. As we become #climateRefugees & move away -> Opens up more #land for #extraction (so-called ' #underExploited ') See also #silentWeaponsForQuietWars available in the public domain apparently. Also two #Boeing #safety #engineer #whistleblowers in the past year died shortly after going public w their news #leak #leaks . One apparent #suicideAllegedly the other in an #accident ... And prior to pandemic IDK which year there was a regional/national conference on the future of #selfDrivingCars #autonomousVehicles #roboTaxis held iirc in #PortlandOregon at #OMSI .. A whole panel of speakers, mostly industry, urban planning, policy wonks... But one woman who was widely regarded as a world-class expert on the risks / dangers of AV's ... She lived in Arizona. The week before she was scheduled to fly to Portland to give her talk at the convention/symposium, she was hit & killed... By a self-driving car. There is plenty more, but one gets the idea.

PS. #real_estate #affordable_housing is #gaslighting and a #Trojan_horse . As #private_equity and #public_housing_projects & #CDCs gobble up more land and homes to #demolish them and build brand new ones, the cost invariably skyrockets across the entire #market . Further, 1. They artificially limit the supply by delisting actually-vacant rentals (to drive up cost/demand), and 2. They constantly #lobby tooth & nail against any type of #environmental #regulations ... And #buildingCode #energy #efficiency standards. ... They refuse to even install simple overhangs above windows, to block out the sun during its summer zenith / hottest months while allowing it in the cooler months (#passiveSolarDesign 101 ).. Let alone thicker walls/insulation or triple-pane windows , all of which would only add 2% to the total cost of construction. (See " #passiveHaus explained in 90 seconds " on YouTube as well as #ecoJusticeRadio on passivehomes passivehouse #naturalbuilding
)
And building more even actually-affordable housing obscures the most obvious:
The cheapest home is an existing home.

Watching Grand Designs Australia s12e01.
20 minutes in and and there already 2 major factual errors.
1. You DON'T need petrochemical foam and cement to get a high thermal mass, insulated floor. You can use foam glass aggregate (Medium carbon emissions material), or expanded clay (lower emissions) for an insulated drainage + capillary break layer. Then, a lime screed or earthen floor (with optional infloor heating). No steel reinforcement needed.

Laguna Cejar - Salar de Atacama, Chile. One of the things I so admired about the park facilities in the Atacama was the small buildings thoughtfully designed and built from local materials.

Image displays a small building made of stone, adobe and wood against a backdrop of an oasis in the Salar de Atacama. These facilities are used as a visitors' center and changing rooms at Laguna Cejar in Chile's Atacama Desert.

What did we do to preserve homes before the chemical concoctions we use today existed? Here is an open source plaster and eco-plaster page that explores the options.

A symbolic chessboard divided between two worlds — one side green and full of trees, people, and nature, and the other side dark with factories and pollution. The text across the center reads: “By making conscious choices, we can protect our planet for future generations.” The image represents the contrast between sustainable and destructive human actions.

“The Compressed Earth Block Village (Pod 4) will demonstrate a new level of artistic and functional creation for the eco-construction world. Built from compressed earth bricks/blocks, this village will demonstrate the durability, affordability, and creative potential that is possible with this ultra-sustainable building method.”

Soil testing today! Evaluating the soil I dug for the #poolPond for potential use for rammed earth floor and/or fence. The narrow mouth mason jar is soil from the smaller hole. The wide mouth mason (🎸 ) is from the large pile.

Two mason jars, a wide jar and a narrow jar stand on a wood table. They are filled with water and soil and look like a uniform reddish brown color.A narrow mouth mason jar stands full of water mixed with soil. It is a solid brown color. Behind the jar of walks a fuzzy cat. You can only see his back legs and fuzzy body. Two jars stand on top of a small platform. One is narrow one is wide. Behind them is the yard with a hole on both sides.

More Vienna: Finally got to see the Hundertwasserhaus. Beautiful colors, shapes, curved lines, little details, plants growing on the roof and out of walls etc. Great demo of the effect of trees on microclimate too!

Less excited about the amount of souvenir shops and tourists tho. :( If the original intention was for the building to be a prototype and example to others, it now sadly seems like an art object.

Making mud bricks is not so easy as it seems. You must find your recipe, that suits your material and people fail a lot. In most cases the brick disintegrates, once dried.

This is my first attempt. It is heavy and solid. Usable. 👍

Not perfect though. It is a bit coarse. I sieved mud and prepared 3 quality grades. This brick is made out of my crudest one.Next I'll try with the medium grade.

Recipe: mud + sand + Anisantha sterilis N. (= hay) + rice starch. Drying = 15 days. 100% free and bio building material😃

The builder did a wonderful job on this mud and stone home. This is a 2024 home built on a 2023 slender mountain mint stem. Something is maturing safely inside. #pollinators, #wasps, #nativeplants, #minnesota, #mountainmint, #naturalbuilding.

The focus is on a home made nest. The nest is viewed from above. It’s a triple peanut shape attached to a mint stem. Small stones are visible in the matrix. The background is out of focus greenery.

My eventual plan is to build an earthbag home up in the mountains. Want to dig about 6-feet down. double wall, at least at the base. Then drive rebar through the walls for extra stability. then bury/berm the above grade portion and have a green roof. Yes, I want a thermally stable hobbit house.

This is one of the simpler and potentially strongest roof designs I've seen so far. Wondering if it would be strong enough to support 8-12" of dirt on top if those rafters were at a 10-15 degree pitch peak to walls.

Complex illustration of a dry-stacked rock wall. with arrows illustrating examples for each of the rules. character counts preclude the full text description under each rule.

Essential Rules.
1. Set the stones so their lengths go into the wall, not along it.
2. Heart tightly.
3. Cross the joints.
4. Set stones level.
5. Build with the wall's plane.

The earthcrete/bahareque room is coming along nicely. It's hard to imagine a space this beautiful becoming a tool room, so our plans are under evaluation...

Construction with improvised and natural materials is never fast, rarely efficient, but always unique.

The back is done! I'm translating a French pattern as best I can - first time, so plenty of scope for error 🤣 I've cast on for the front ready for when I next get a chance to sit down with it, but it's definitely time to stop now & get some sleep. Christmas quiz tomorrow 🥳 & hopefully another game of Pandemic🤞Also time to order up some hemp and lime binder ready to insulate the loft walls. #life #knitting #solitude #quiz #boardgames #hempcrete #hemplime #naturalbuilding #clayplaster #insulation
