Rust is something hybrid, something that grows and can overgrow. When I look at glass it pretends not to move, but when I look away it always feels like it starts to drip and leak. In my art practice, I have worked a lot with rust, which all started with my fascination for colors and pigments. For six years, I have been making my own pigments from plants that I pick in my garden or from wild plants, which I then use to dye organic fabrics or paint on paper. I also like to work with ceramics and glass, but I was never able to use these pigments in ceramics or glass because the high kiln temperatures - between 800˚C and 1240˚C - burn the pigments and turn them black. Rust, being inorganic, doesn’t get burned in the glass oven; instead, it transforms. So, it turned out to be applicable to both ceramics and glass. I search for rusty items as I walk and soak them in water as soon as I come home. The longer I leave the rusty finds in water, the blacker the rust becomes.

The vibrant purple color of cooked blueberries comes from anthocyanins, natural pigments that change color depending on pH.

In an acidic environment (like lemon juice in your filling), they appear redder, while in a basic environment, they lean toward blue.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 3. I am fascinated by #paperArt. #Paper is one of the most versatile materials. It can be cut, shaped, coloured, embossed, and even altered to resemble fabric, embroidered and felted. In a special mixture with plaster of Paris, it becomes a modelling clay. So I can live out my love of #archaeological finds. Inspired by #neolithic #goddesses. Paperclay with hand-grinded ochre and ultramarine

Ultramarine, spindle-shaped figure, reduced to a tiny head and a bulbous torso. Painted with golden spirals and lightning symbols.Reclining female torso in ochre with gold painting, inspired by statuettes from the European Cucuteni culture, 4500 BCE. I find the ochre on one of our mountains as rocks and grind the stones to pigment by hand.Female torso in ochre paper clay with a copper belt showing a spiral. Inspired by the Cucuteni culture, ca. 4500 BCE. All sculptures are smaller than 10 cm and can be used as a pendant.
