Last time for me was a relatives wedding, nearly a decade ago - even when I was working in public service in 2000s I rarely wore one (Tony Blair even said it was no longer necessary) and have never done so at my current job - I'm often doing hardware installs or even vehicle and building maintenance work, so it would be a safety risk anyway #menswear #clothing #fashion #necktie :BoostOK:

This was yesterday's completed prototype. I'd never made a Dresden Plate before, so this was challenging on 2 fronts.
The plate is from thrifted silk neckties. The background and binding are cotton fabrics from my stash. The overall size is about 21" square(-ish) (53 cm), and the Plate is about 15" (38 cm) across.

A square-ish mini-quilt with a single Dresden Plate block centered. The Plate block measures about 15 inches (38 cm) across, and is made from 3 silk neckties. There are 18 blades in the Plate, arranged in a circle such that they are radiating outward, ending in points at the outermost edge. They alternate between a fancy redish print and an elegant blue, red, and gold stripe pattern. The center of the Plate holds a circle (about 4.5 inches (11 cm) across, which is made from a black and silver diamond print silk tie. The white background and blue binding are cotton fabrics from my stash. The overall size is about 21 inches (53 cm) square, more or less.

OK, here is today's finished piece. It measures overall about 34" x 31" (about 86 x 79 cm). It's called Bang! Bang! Bang! I was using this as a prototype for creating a commissioned piece. The red pieces are made from silk neckties. The black background is all cotton from my stash of fabrics. The red binding is cotton from my stash.

A small wall quilt, slightly wider than it is tall. There are 3 red blocks that look like exclamation points, on a black background. They are arranged in a row, left to right. Instead of a "point" or dot at the bottom, there is a square arranged like a diamond, with the corners facing up/down and left/right. The red pieces are made from thrifted silk ties, and the black background is cotton fabric from my stash. It is bound in red cotton fabric. The quilting pattern is all-over "swirl chain", which features interlocking spirals.
