#ArtAdventCalendar In my childhood, I dreamed of having a cute, small and real dragon in our garden. I imagined dragons to be green (and did I say cute?). For my first bigger embroidery I tried to paint with the needle. Even adults could use dragon power!

A later state of the embroidery in a round embroidery hoop. The outlines are stitched with simple running stitch in dark red and yellow. As I come from drawing, I fill the dragon like I would colour a sketch on paper. I started with a bright yellow green. To give the dragon skin some texture, I use the needle to paint spots in different directions with this green and then add other shades of green next to them.

And it's FINISHED! It took me a year, well, not a consecutive year, but two festive holidays. I'll probably frame this one and do a furaffinity auction for this and other originals next year, but we'll see. I'm always very wary of shipping.
In the meantime, i still don't know what my next embroidery project will be, but I've already bought some pastel colored DMC floss because hey, Xmas 🎁

I loved mixing cross stitch and thread painting in one piece.
It botters me how cross stitch is often disdained while thread painting is over appreciated. I love both techniques, of course, but I have a problem with how realistic art gets more praise than other styles.

Taking the advice of fellow Tooters (is that what we call ourselves?) and turning some stitched flowers I did to practice needle painting (and which have been languishing in a bag) into a needle case (in the Georgian/ eighteenth century style). Flowers all backed with felt and cut into petals and half way through edging petal one with ribbon. #needlework #embroidery #craft #needlepainting #EighteenthCentury
