"The Woman Who Predicted Tech Fascism — Paulina Borsook Was Right"

"These techno-libertarians make a philosophy out of a personality defect."

Tech-libertarianism-fascism

It bespeaks a lack of human connection & a discomfort with
the core of what many of us consider it means to be human.
It's an inability to reconcile the demands of being individual
with the demands of participating in society.

It coincides beautifully with preference for & glorification of
being the solo commander of one's computer in lieu of any
other economically viable behavior.

Computers are so much more rule-based, controllable,
fixable, & comprehensible than any human will ever be.
These techno-libertarians make a philosophy out of a
personality defect.

Interview: "The Woman Who Predicted Tech Fascism — Paulina Borsook Was Right"

Borsook wrote Cyberselfish, which warned about "the rise of Silicon Valley authoritarianism & technofascism decades before Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, & the far-right tech elite took power."

"How Silicon Valley’s toxic libertarianism evolved into a global far-right propaganda machine."

The Woman Who Predicted Tech Fascism —
Paulina Borsook Was Right

Borsook warned of a new toxic techno-libertarian political
strain informed by absolutist Ayn Rand.

It wanted a world as controllable & predictable as a
computer - no room for messy human needs.

Borsook's Cyberselfish revealed the strain's childish political
beliefs & toxic masculinity. She predicted that if it took an
interest in politics, it would be bad news for the world.
Years before Musk & Thiel rose to challenge democracy,
Borsook saw it coming. But the media gatekeepers weren't
interested, & her writing career took a dive.

Harry's Last Stand

When the past is unremembered, austerity is forever.

"Intro:

No one should be surprised when Rachel Reeves’ Budget, tabled tomorrow for a Starmer austerity government, makes life harder for Britain’s ordinary residents. The days we plod through are now more hopeless than hopeful. Neoliberalism is intent on economically murdering us before it commits suicide."

The last graph in #GregJericho ‘s column in the Guardian is the interesting one — apart from the put down of #TimWilson, got a laugh from me on that one — that graph show the purchasing power of the average wage. It hasn’t yet recovered from the #Grifters led inflation as COVID hit hard and companies raped the economy by jacking up prices (thruth, plenty of evidence out there to support that view, greg did a couple of articles showing this quite clearly). So, the take away from the article is that if things do not change it will take a wage earner until 2044 before he can get back to the purchasing power he had in 2021. And economists have the gall to blame workers for the poor state of the economy and the low productivity (don’t get me going on the latter). Guess what numpties… if the workers have no money, they can’t buy your shit and the economic dunks… basic!

''North Sea oil and gas revenues surged just as what looked like a government-generated recession hit. Rather than being used to modernise British manufacturing, rebuild infrastructure, or create sovereign wealth for future generations, oil and gas revenues were channelled into funding mass unemployment, cutting taxes for the wealthy, .... Britain burned its future to fund the anti-socialist neoliberal project. "

...neoliberalism treats growth as an end in itself, entirely divorced from utility, like the ruthless production targets of Mao Zedong in Communist China. To feed this insatiable beast, we must toil ever harder and destroy ever more of the world on which our lives depend.

@ChrisMayLA6 To be fair, leaking like a fleet of hyperactive fire engines is a mighty good distraction from the core issue that #RachelReeves has no strategic desire to dismantle #neoliberalism.

Reeves has no goal to reverse the torrential flow of wealth from poor to rich, or to tax assets instead of work, or to reduce #rentseeking, or end private profiteering from #publicServices and utilities.

But the leakfest is a great distraction from the strategic vacuum.

How there was too much of that damn democracy in universities at one point, and how rich white men solved it.
