#neoliberalism

Okay everyone, chant it with me:

me 📢 : WHY ARE THINGS SO BAD IN YOUR COUNTRY?
you 🗣️: #NEOLIBERALISM

me 📢 : HOW ARE WE GOING TO FIX IT?
#KierStarmer 🗣️: EVEN MORE THIRD WAY NEOLIBERALISM

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️

Hey @EUCommission ! Guess where #USA medical companies, backed by the power of the #US #Trump Corporatocracy, are headed next since #UK just folded like a house of cards stabbing the #NHS in the back again? They will be coming here to #Europe and will be trying to apply the same threats to our European Medicines Agency. It is no secret the "people" behind #Project2025 (that thing that nobody took seriously that outlined how to dismantle the state, but is now about 50% implemented in only 6 months) and their allies have their sites set on the #EU next.

Instead of trying to increase the quality of life for #Americans to #European standards, they want to dismantle and destroy any and all the benefits and quality of life we have here and drag it down to #US standardards. Please stand hard and fast to the #tarrif, and other economic threats these companies will make (like they did in the #UK). The markets in the #EU are more stable, and people have more consumer spending power here. More than half the folks in the #US cannot afford regular #healthcare on a good day, in the next 6-12 months it will be fewer people than that, so spending and markets there will continue to go down. If we capitulate, the current #AmericanDream lived by millions of americans who are currently paying more in monthly health insurance and medical payments, that doesn't pay for anything other than bankruptcy, than they do in rent or home mortgage payments will so be ours as well.

Please tell me you see this coming and are already prepared.

Additionally, please start developing relationships with pharmaceutical companies that don't have ANY US interests (in India, China, etc...) ASAP so they cannot use the US "govt" as their negotiator in the future.

Permanent Normative Production: The Self-Instituted Society Under Technological Control

Dardot and Laval analyze contemporary society as a vast permanent normative production: technology continuously reconstructs norms, shaping a social order that constantly self-institutes itself to the brink of totalization. In their major works, Pierre Dardot and Christian Laval reveal the unprecedented nature of…

Any civilization more "advanced" than the societies and technologies of Indigenous People before their colonisation and genocide by "developed civilizations" is a form of collective mental illness.

Neo-liberal capitalism / fascism is the most acute form of this illness.

Corporate Control – Nora Loreto
Much like Dark PR I see in this government subsidizing industries that really aren't good for the people that live in the country, the people that government is supposed to be serving. From choosing free trade over the protected economy in the late 80's to selling off the Crown Corporations to business that now make billions in profit,

People are angry about , but no one’s asking why. Flags only mean something if we give them meaning.

For many working-class people in , waving the flag is less about hate and more about asking, “Whose country is this?” It’s a cry for recognition in a system that ignores class, buries history, and replaces real politics with performance, myth, and managed division.

Interesting tidbit in this preview of a new videogame:

"You can also found a police state, set up labour camps, and embrace neoliberalism, if you're feeling especially dystopic."

rockpapershotgun.com/lead-or-d

Nice to see how #neoliberalism, the love child of corporations, conservative politics and big media in the early 2000s is now viewed in pop culture as something really abhorrent, disgusting and sinister, like labour camps and police states.

@RichardJMurphy Sort of suspect #Trump and his handlers want another civil war so they can round up and shoot anyone they dislike. Or enslave them. What dark times. And a product of #neoliberalism one strongly suspects.

"In prepared remarks, Deputy Governor Rhys Mendes warned that mortgage costs have distorted the Bank’s preferred CPI readings. Now it’s considering whether to scrap mortgage interest—or its preferred measures altogether—in favor of “underlying inflation,” a concept it describes as less of a statistic and more of a feeling… before citing it as the statistic used to justify its latest policy move."

@bbbhltz @aral your interaction reminded me a lot of ones I've had when trying to talk to badly-masking European fascist-sympathizers (very defensive about private equity, the brand or CEO of the EV they drive, slipping racist and xenophobic comments here or there, etc.).

They all seem to run to a set of thought-terminating clichés like: "Oh, that's something that happens in America" (as if the distance makes a tragedy less wrong).

And, I don't know why but..., these experiences have reminded me of a definition about #neoliberalism I swear I recently read in an article (or a comment) that defined it in terms of seeking reassurance from the market; closest thing I could could find is this quote from redditor Valdamier:

"Neoliberalism is the belief that free market and laissez-faire economics will help take care of us."

They are very quick to try to discredit anything that might make it seem like we all need to do something about an ongoing problem; #FSM forbid having to feel sad about it.

It makes me wonder if they have skin in the game and benefit from an ongoing social injustice.

And --- like you --- I am not sure what the heck they watch online... but I'm happy we're not drinking their #KlanAid.

"In short, Macron’s close confidant wants to double down on a program of fiscal austerity, which will hit working- and middle-class French people the hardest. The president’s allies point to the country’s swollen budget deficit — expected to hit 5.4 percent of GDP in 2025, the current highest in the eurozone — to argue for a package of spending and welfare cuts.

Yet Lecornu is far from having the parliamentary majority that he’d need to force through such an unpopular and unbalanced economic program. One month after the deeply divided parliament ousted the previous premier François Bayrou, the Macronite center is again digging in behind its red lines.

This should come as little surprise. Macron has governed from the right since his first election in 2017 and has no intention of changing course now (his second term officially finishes in spring 2027)."

Cleveland State University's student-run alternative radio station WCSB was abruptly shut down Friday and replaced with a jazz station operated by Ideastream Public Media.

They broke the news over Zoom then called the cops to "escort" the students out.
