@Photo55 You're right, but it probably won't surprise you that I try to vacuum the carpet and websearch the internet. As the unofficial motto of so many scientific trades goes: "you don't have to be autistic to work here, but it helps". 🤪

And yet I use eponymous words like "quisling" and "boycot" (and indeed I admire the Norwegians and the Irish for consigning those of whom they disapproved so enduringly to villainy), so I'm sure there will be commercially derived words that I use - just as you describe - but I am ignorant of their etymology.

So, one of my guilty pleasures is watching the TV show #HighPotential, which is based on another show (#HPI). #KaitlynOlson (who in real-life is married to #ND #RobMacElhenney) portrays "Morgan," who has an IQ of 160 and notices EVERYTHING! After she oversteps her position as a cleaner, Morgan is hired on as a police consultant -- where she helps to solve murders. Season 2 airs tonight on ABC, and Season 1 is available on Hulu...

Excerpt: "Born in 1992 and diagnosed with autism of a 'severe' and 'nonverbal' type, #NaokiHigashida attended a number of educational institutions in the course of his youth, including a neurotypically centered primary school, a special needs junior high, and a distance learning high school. Observing the many ways in which people with disabilities are fast-tracked out of normal life and shuttled into special needs circles (and low-wage jobs, if they are lucky), Higashida, the author of dozens of poems, short stories, and nonfiction books, wanted to make his own choice. After 'questioning things' for himself, and identifying his gifts and hopes, he decided to become a writer.

"While in school, he had become increasingly frustrated with the steady infantilization and 'schoolmaster-type instruction' that denied his creativity and squashed his curiosity. Indeed, scientists and educators alike repeatedly characterize people with autism as lacking any measurable — and therefore meaningful — curiosity. Resisting this narrative in his writing and activism, Higashida repeatedly asserts his own curiosity: 'I’m always hungry to learn,' 'hungry for knowledge,' he writes in his bestselling memoir 'The Reason I Jump'; 'I want to grow up learning a million things!' Other autistic people, he says, are much like him in this respect, 'constantly challenging and asking questions of themselves.' This should be no real surprise, he writes in a poem called 'Curiosity,' given that curiosity is fundamentally human; it 'is why we carry on.' "

Perhaps it would be easier if we just accepted each other as we are. Neurotypicals would not assume bad intentions and overinterpret messages. That would help a lot.

As a recent self discovered #neuroatypical, the kind that suffers a bit from my default mode (as opposed to those who can say 'oh we're all on a spectrum aren't we, dearie'): well, I've decided to love my particular [if technically inefficient] way of going about things. My earliest imprinting (surviving compulsory schooling) taught me it was bad and wrong to be myself, so see how I end up doubting my own feelings and reasoning in just about everything. Square peg round hole from day 1.
