So hyped, I am finally replacing my mess of gaming laptops to get a desktop for the first time in 16+ years.
I plan to be very unorthodox in the use of it lol.
Running Virtual Machines using nixOS as the VM host using qemu. running services and modules as a host. remote desktop and parsec for remote gaming.
thinking streaming gaming for mobile/laptop to home device instead of using syncthing for emulator saves.
finally going to get note taking(md format)/time tracking and calendar/File Share(replace google cloud and Azure/onedrive) maybe nextcloud for simplicity.
on the fence about guacamole or kasm.

I finally got all the hardware together and ironed out most of the bugs and I went live with my new machine today. After I had been playing away for an hour or so, this disquieting message popped up informing me that I was running an "unauthenticated" copy of Windows. Same copy, only a different computer. So I reluctantly went to the authentication page in settings to find out what THIS was going to cost me. Luckily I still have my purchased copy of Windows 7, because I used the serial number from it and Microsoft authenticated Windows 10 for me. My old machine still works after twelve years, slow by todays standards, but I hope I'm as lucky with the new one.

I'm nearly finished building my new computer. I cloned my boot drive from my old machine. I used EaseUS Partition Manager to change the copy from an MBR disk to a GPT disk, installed it in the new machine and it booted right up. I put the original boot drive back in the old machine, which I plan to use until I get all the bugs out of the new one. I moved my wifi antenna to the new machine and downloaded the drivers I needed and at this point I can surf the internet, watch a movie or listen to music on it (most of what I use a computer for.) Still a couple of hiccups. The front panel USB ports are supposed to connect with a cable that ends in a plug that has no corresponding socket on the motherboard. The six port SATA expansion card I bought doesn't work so I'm returning it for another one. A humbling and worthwhile experience that resulted in a computer that is 4 times as fast as this one. If I can do it, you can do it.
