I was on the goodwill site Tuesday & saw a cricut machine but for cake decorating & I watched hours of YT videos on it Weds & Thursday this week. Tonight I was texting with a friend (who let me borrow her cake decorating box & supplies for 2 weeks to practice & that's how I found out how useful the box was) & I told her I saw the machine but I didn't want to pay a ton & she said- "I have one. I'll drive it over to you now. Take it. It's yours. Have fun."

It's in my dining room.

The new "shop" laptop arrived this morning just before we left for a BBQ at my parent's place. It's an HP 14-DK1003DX. Sports an Athlon Silver 3050U (2 core 2 thread) CPU and a Radeon RX Vega 2 iGPU. 8GB ram. 14 inch screen with max res of 1366x768. womp womp, I guess. So far it's not bothering me.

Cracked it open on the ride over to the BBQ (less than an hour) and installed the battery and SSD I already had waiting for it. By the time we got there I had it back together and was loading Mint from the USB. Tested functionality to make sure everything worked. Picked up my parent's Wi-Fi, my phone's Bluetooth, all the keys and track pad/buttons work, cam works (not that I care really, but hey, cool).

Shut it down and enjoyed the rest of the day. Came home and powered back on and installed Mint. Parents live in the sticks (they had dial up as recently as about a decade ago) so I didn't want to burden their network with updating etc. 20 mins later, reboot, update, reboot, and off and running. Encountered 0 issues. So now I have a decent device to look up vids/board views etc when I'm fixing stuff. .. So I guess now I just need to start getting stuff to fix, lol. #Tech #LinuxMint #NewToy

Well last week I found out that coaxial networking adapters ALSO exist. I ordered one a couple days ago and it should be delivered today. IF it works I hope to be able to move my router to the center of the house without losing too much speed. We'll see. Looking forward to playing with it.
