Cool solution with the POP3-Mastodon client! How are likes, boosts, making toots, and replies handled? POP3 only handles receiving, right?

I implemented my ActivityPub server so I could get an NNTP-interface without having to run eg Mastodon or similar, which would include a lot of stuff I don't need.

I vaguely remember somebody making a Mastodon client for Emacs, but I didn't follow it, as I don't feel like running Mastodon myself, and I want to use an ActivityPub server I run myself.

I would guess a backend for Gnus would similarly be a Mastodon client - after having tried a stab at writing an nngitlab backend for Gnus, I prefer to use Gnus against NNTP-interfaces and handling the conversion outside of Gnus :-)

Good idea!
Current version of #mop3 has an issue: panic if connection to mastodon instance timeout reached.
Therefore I have to do something: make wrapper for #mop3, patch #mop3 or fork #mop3 :)

@harold @bonni208 I'm old enough to have seen multiple great online communities I substantially contributed to come and go: #Usenet, #reddit[1], #Twitter.

Sidenote: Still mourning the Usenet though. Lots of great features I've never seen ever since. 😔 But that's a tech argument not the community discussion you mentioned.

@NanoRaptor I tried #IRC in the 90s and I never understood it so far. No threading, no references, pure chaos when multiple chats intertwine. Basically works only synchronously. 😞

An era is coming to an end (at least for me). I had my first contact with the internet in 1992, namely with #usenet. I have remained (more or less) loyal to it to this day. Now my most respected #nntp server has announced that will shut down:
