Today's campus birds started with a small group of three Bush Stone-curlews this morning, and then a family of ducks, some swamphen chicks and a Noisy Miner this afternoon.

Went for a wander down the road this morning, found a damp Crimson Rosella, a busy Noisy Miner, a Magpie and a Tawny Frogmouth doing its best impression of a stick.

It is attempting to look like a branch, and doing a pretty decent job of it, except for its chosen perch which is much thinner than it is and therefore gives away its presence.

There's a Noisy Miner chick at the top of my driveway, sheltering by the garage wall. It's still very downy, but there's enough feathers to be sure of what it is. Does anyone know if this is in any way normal behaviour? Given the fact that the parents are bound to be aggressive little bastards, I haven't made any attempt to get too close. In fact, I retreated to the porch.

If this is normal behaviour, will it go away unassisted?

Now for some random or maybe relevant hashtags...

I went out to our Gatton Campus today for a job, and while I charged the car, I took in some of the local bird life.

The Noisy Miners were busy harassing everyone, the Magpie followed me from tree to tree talking to me, the Crested Pigeon was not interested in being within 20m of me, so took refuge in a Jacaranda tree, and there were several Little Friarbirds flitting about.

A Noisy Miner takes a flying bath in the lake at UQ.

It did this a couple of times, flying down to the lake surface, briefly splashing down and then flying back up to the nearby tree.

Noisy miner, Manorina melanocephala. These guys are generally pretty massive jerks to both each other and other bird species.

Short walk on campus today. Not much about in the middle of the day, but here are some #NoisyMiner s having a drink, a #LaughingKookaburra just sitting around on a branch, an #EasternWaterDragon sunning itself on the lawn, and the underside of a #RainbowLorikeet

Oh no! The Noisy Miner nest has fallen out of the tree! At least there's no eggs or bebes yet but that's a lot of wasted effort! They even lined it! 😭

A #NoisyMiner in #brightonEast taking in the sun yesterday, also in mid-hop on the building guttering (pic 3)…

I observed this bird chasing (and snacking on!) insects in the grass near a busy road and footpath.

Was wary of my presence so couldn’t get too close, but it hung about long enough for a few pics at least!

The noisy miner (Manorina melanocephala) is a bird in the honeyeater family.

The leucistic magpie (mostly white magpie, famous around UQ), seems to have bred again, as this semi-leucistic magpie is presumably another of its brood.

Also, Noisy Miners are all over campus at the moment. They are by far, the most prominent bird there.

An upside down Noisy Miner.

There's a lot of them about at the moment on campus, and not a lot of anything else; but then it is winter.
