Open notebook with handwritten text from the post at the of the page with additional text: “This tree was specifically associated with averting the powers of the dark witch. An old saying from Herefordshire tells: The witty (Rowan) is the tree on which the devil hanged himself. Many people are also familiar with the old saying, this variation from Teesdale, England: Black luggie, lammer bead, Rowan tree and red thread, Put the witches to their speed. The ‘black luggie’ was a dish made of black oak and the ‘lammer bead’ was an amber bead - both substances, along with rowan and the color scarlet, were protective in nature. In Scotland, a protective amulet was made by wrapping this same written rhyme on paper around a rowan twig and tying it with a red silk thread. Rowan wood could be laid over the door threshold to keep witches from entering, particularly around May Eve. On ‘Witchwood Day’ May 2 in Yorkshire (though many references state that May 3 was Holy Rood Day or Rowan Tree Day), rowan wood was cut in a ceremonial way and placed above the doors of the home for protection from witches for the following year.” — Corinne Boyer, Under the Witching Tree 2020. Below the text a blue and ivory colored pen with gold-tone trim lies across the page. Below the pen a card with fabric and paint collage artwork shows a woman in Victorian or Edwardian dress reading a long letter. Next to the card is a swatch of a dusty rose colored ink.

On May 3, police killed one worker and injured several protecting scab workers crossing picket lines. The following day, anarchist workers called for a mass protest meeting in Haymarket Square. There, a bomb was thrown by an unidentified individual, and police opened fire. Seven officers and several civilians were killed. “Eight anarchists who were involved in the eight-hour workday movement were subsequently charged, although some of them had no connection to the Haymarket protest and had not even been present, and none of them were accused of throwing the bomb. Seven were sentenced to death and the eighth to fifteen years in prison.“ — Working Class History: Everyday Acts of Resistance & Rebellion 2020. I'm making some more progress with prosemirror.net

Here I am using a wysiwyg editor to create markdown text under the hood. Prosemirror allows me to decorate the text and add some widgets for interaction.

In this example I implement @mentions for creating links to other resources in Orsn. Mousing over an internal link reveals options to preview or go to that resource.

Open notebook with handwritten text from the post at the of the page with additional text: “Walpurgisnacht is best known because of its use as a dramatic backcloth in Goethe’s Faust, Part I, but in the Harz Mountains it has been celebrated, more or less seriously, on 30 April for centuries, and is being deliberately cultivated today. According to popular belief, this night is marked by all manner of ghostly goings-on, and many superstitions have arisen as to how one can best protect oneself. Farmers would put three crosses and bunches of certain herbs above the stable doors to protect their cattle from the witches which were thought to ride through the air during this night en route to their annual get-together on the Brocken, North Germany’s highest mountain. On their journey they would bite a piece out of every church bell they happened to pass. People would hide their broomsticks lest they be stolen by some witch without transport of her own, and one way and another people tried to make as much noise as possible.” — Jennifer M. Russ, German Festivals & Customs 1982. Below the text is a card with a blue on blue line drawing of an acorn. Next to the card is a clear blue plastic fountain pen and swatch of a medium blue ink with faint red sheen.

Open notebook with handwritten text from the post at the of the page with additional text: “t the time I had been experiencing a lot of negative issues in the home that required constant cleansing. After a couple months of doing my standard cleansing work every few days or so, I was simply exhausted. So I decided that on the new moon cycle, I would start incorporating Hekate’s Deipnon into my regular practice for a while…On the following night, you can observe the Noumenia by enjoying your clean home with a feast for yourself and (if you have one) your family. This doesn’t need to be anything major, but it should feel special somehow…The most important part of the Noumenia is the warm feeling you and any family members get from the night…With the home cleansed on the Deipnon and newly blessed on the Noumenia, you're starting off the lunar month with a fresh outlook, a warm glow, and hopefully a joyous attitude for the weeks to come.” — David Salisbury, A Mystic Guide to Cleansing & Clearing 2016. Below the text is a card with the painting Wild Cat (1850) by Rosa Bonheur of a wild cat lying on its side in grass. Next to the card is a purple fountain pen and a swatch of gray ink.

My work notebook. Trying out a Clairefontaine for the first time, blank pages for this one. I also use my mechanical pencil in it for sketches etc so blank pages are handy.

For fountain pens I have mixed results with this paper so far. Sometimes the Lamy 2000 refuses to drop ink on the page, it seems to happen randomly idk.

The ink in the Lamy is from Caran D’Ache
