A 90s computer setup sits on a beige desk. It consists of beige small form factor PC underneath a CRT monitor, a beige Dell keyboard and beige mouse on a black mousepad, with two beige speakers on either side. The CRT is off, but the reflection of a standing light can be seen. In the background, pink insulation and wood studs can be seen in the unfinished basement.

My favourite thing about #atx is that I can hook up 2-year old power supplies to 27-year old computers. This PSU is over 8.5x more powerful than the original!

A very small computer. Unlike the Speccy's rainbow design, it has red, green, and blue diagonal stripes at the bottom-left of the keyboard.

Here's an interesting machine called the GeoStar, which had a two-monitor display. On the left was a raster display for text. On the right, a vector display for plotting maps. It was used on mining sites.

A beige CRT monitor displays Memtest86 5.01 running on a Pentium II system. The top half of the blue screen shows system details such as “CLK: 348.5MHz (PAE Mode),” “Memory: 384M,” and “Chipset: Intel i440BX.” The timer reads 00:00:04, but it is frozen and not advancing. The bottom half of the screen is filled with rapidly scrolling red error rows, showing countless failing memory addresses around the 276MB region. Many of the hexadecimal values in the “Good,” “Bad,” and “Err-Bits” columns appear slightly blurred due to how fast the errors were flying by. The error counter reads over 2.7 million errors. Warm ambient light reflects off the CRT bezel in the dimly lit room.

Alright, the old TP #SL510 is up and running with SparkyLinux - although it did not boot at first. But I always have a boot-repair-ISO at hand on my distro-stick.

The almost as old Travelmate 7740G from 2010 can stay as it is. Doing fine with Linux Mint 22.2. Nothing to worry. But it will move to the backseat as well.

A T14 (W11) and a E15 (LM) have joined the family. Not new, but good price and just great! 😀 💻

Why not give SparkyLinux (LXQT/Rolling) a chance?
Right now installing on my aged Thinkpad SL510. Yes, that machine is 16 years old. But still going strong. Cough. 😅
Well it is still quite useable with its original hardware - and with a lean linux.
Tried Kanotix (LXDE) first. But it did not cooperate well when customizing. 🤷‍♂️
