Iโ€™m still frequenting the gym these days as Iโ€™m finding it easier to control fitness and recovery this way. Anyway threshold running today, 10 minutes warm up then 30 minutes threshold, I tried to guess what pace to run off a previous 5k I did recently, which worked out at 5:24 min/km average hr 181 bpm. Well pleased with that and good benchmark to work from. Finishing 2024 with a hard worked 30 minutes. Definitely a struggle today, heart rate up to over 90% of MHR and lungs fighting to take in oxygen. So with my level of fitness lately a sub 30 5k is pretty damn good. Itโ€™s surprising how things change over time when your running fitness has wained. Went out with the intention of a nice relaxed run, not worrying too much on pace and heart rate. Got to 5k, then eased back and finished the workout with 2k cool down walk/jog. Average pace for the 5k was 6:11 min/km at 168 bpm whereas the same pace 7/8 months ago, hr would have been around 150 bpm.
