Le ciel est d’un bleu sombre, la nuit est presque tombée. Sur la gauche, se détache la silhouette noire d'une partie de l’église Saint-Mélar. On voit une croix perchée sur son pinacle, comme brandie vers le ciel. Les branches sans feuilles d’un petit arbre occupent le centre de l’image et à droite, la facade illuminée d’un bâtiment - une épicerie-café - rassure dans cette inquiétante ambiance.
