Finally I have a question worthy of Mastodon - how do I find the root-admin password for an old Red Hat distro of Linux?

I purchased an instrument in 2013 when I was at Tulane University, moved to the University of South Florida, and I haven't used it much since. It is a big analytical device with an internal computer, wireless monitor, and wireless mouse. No internet currently, but can be plugged to an Ethernet cable.

Yesterday, the keyboard went kaput. Corroded, leaky, 12 year old batteries. I went into the system settings while trying to find a compatible mouse and keyboard, but I was asked for an administrator password. I don't have one, and the company who built this (Los Gatos Research) has been subsumed by another company, and this product is no longer made. Reformating is not an option. Are there any other options?

Note: buying a Logitech mouse keyboard combo ultimately worked seamlessly, so now I am skeptical of all the comparability Jones/complaints I've seen #OnHere (this is my only Linux machine).

I haven't been #OnHere enough lately. I'll admit being tired with everything in the world, but I've also been extremely busy with band, Ultimate, and family stuff.

I get a break from band stuff now for about a month. I finished my "band summer" on a high note: two packed opening gigs about 10 days ago. This shot is from the Fine Line in Minneapolis. It was easily one of the best gigs we've ever had.

What I appreciate about the rage bait, brigading and clout farming #onhere is that it's a pure expression of misanthropy. There's no incentives from algorithmic amplification, monetization, or influencer marketing. Just unadulterated rancid vibes, the most boorish people on the Internet baring their true unfiltered selves on fedi for love of the game alone
