🍞 You wouldn't think it's appropriate to joke about food banks if you had distant memories of your mother crying at night because she knew you couldn't sleep because you went to bed hungry.

This is why we can't have nice things... or safe things...
Spoke to a public health nurse today. Doug has not given any funding or doses of COVID or Flu vaccines to public health to be able to run their community clinics that anyone can visit (think ones in community centres/rec centres). They do have some but it's ONLY for under 5s and those without an OHIP card. So if you hate needles or just want an actual nurse who has done full on training you are shit out of luck. She said it's particularly hard for seniors who do not like going to pharmacies. So we are going to have a huge population who are going to struggle to get their vaccines this winter. She suggested people need to get emailing their councilors and the government.
I am supremely confident that some minister, who is totally not having a massage with a lobbyist or property developer, will always do what's right in order to protect the water supply for communities large and small. No need to be concerned that the sale of Stag & Doe tickets will somehow poison me or cause E.coli deaths. Absolutely trustworthy.
Fixed-date elections are a bad idea for a parliamentary system. I understand the idea is that it's fairer to opposition parties by taking the power to call an election out of the hands of the government. But what really happens is that, because they know the precise election date, parties are tempted to begin campaigning earlier and earlier, to get the jump on their competitors. Better to prepare themselves, but keep their powder dry.

Ontario’s final tally for housing starts in 2024 was well off what’s needed to achieve 1.5 million homes, even with various new categories the government is adding such as university dorms, and the financial accountability officer says housing starts for

#Ontario's own #Trump, #DougFord, wants to keep hold on power beyond even his opportunistically obtained mandate earlier this year by moving elections to 5-years instead of 4-years.
He also wants to remove fixed election dates, instead holding snap-opportunistic elections when it is favourable for the party in power just like he did earlier this year!
The next election is supposed to be June 2029, but he wants to stay in power until

without needing another election!
Donation limit increase so he needs fewer large donors? Yup!
Donations limits previously increased with inflation, but 'ol Dougie wants them to increase by 50%!
Just as Donald Trump with his demanding states gerrymander districts to secure his power, Doug Ford is making changes secure his power!
Ford and Trump are cut from the same cloth!

🇨🇦 Ford Overstepping his role--Again
"Fraser shot back that “Ontarians are paying with their jobs for what you just did,” a reference to Trump’s threat on Saturday to add an additional 10 per cent tariff on Canadian goods because the ads were only paused on Monday so that they could run during the World Series.
Prime Minister Mark Carney said Monday that trade talks had been proceeding well until they were halted because of the tariffs. "

" the province would, however, “continue to implement common-sense reforms and strengthen the province’s rental housing market by restoring balance at the Landlord and Tenant Board, cracking down on abuse of the system, and encouraging new rental construction to make it easier for families to find a place to call home.”
👉 This move comes amid loud pushback from renters, advocates, organizations, and several politicians.
🇨🇦 👀 Ontario to scrap fixed election dates, raise donation limit to $5,000 under new bill
"The proposed reforms will return Ontario to an electoral process that served our province well for nearly a century and a half, prior to the imposition of American-style fixed election dates,” he wrote in a statement Monday.
“With these reforms, governments will be better positioned to respond to changing circumstances and external threats, including by seeking a fresh mandate from the people of Ontario when it’s needed.”
🇨🇦 The food bank system in Ontario is no longer sustainable, a new report warns as the number of people in need grows amid skyrocketing grocery prices.
Food Banks Canada’s The HungerCount report released on Monday reported over 760,000 unique individuals accessed food banks monthly in Ontario between 2023 and 2024, which marks a 125 per cent increase in food bank use since 2019 — the fastest growth the organization has ever seen.
(But there is a SPA!!)
After 20 years since the law was introduced, Doug Ford wants to scrap fixed election dates in Ontario so he can hold on to power for up to one year longer thanks to his majority government.
He must be thinking that his current popularity isn’t going to last. What does he have planned?

John Steinbeck came up with the phrase 'temporarily embarrassed millionaires'.
On a similar note, I wonder how many people think of themselves as temporarily embarrassed insiders, and that's why Doug Ford is still so popular.
