Nach einem sysupgrade auf 24.10.4 ist ein opkg update und auch das restore des Backup nicht möglich !!!

Bei mir macht die #OpenWrtOne drei WLANs auf:
- WPA3 2,4 GHz
- WPA3 5 GHz
- WPA2 2,4 GHz (Legacy-Devices)
Funktioniert ganz gut, Repeater habe ich nicht.
Das Ding hat gefühlt Tausend Einstellmöglichkeiten - bessere Netzwerker als ich werden sich da sicherlich richtig austoben können.

Seit Frühjahr wird unser #WLAN von einer #OpenWrtOne gewuppt im Austausch gegen #FritzBox. Die Anschaffung einerseits wegen Modernisierung von Softwarestack und Protokollen, aber vor allem wegen langfristigem Support bei #OpenSource.
Das kleine Blaue läuft absolut unauffällig und fast hätte ich es vergessen, aber Heise nicht.
Daher heute die ersten Upgrades erfolgreich:

While there is downstream #opensource code available for customizing the OpenWrt One to your heart's content, the upstream #Linux #kernel support to date hasn't been full-featured.

My newly acquired OpenWrt One router is causing me some grief. It seems to revert back to the firmware it shipped with (24.10.0-rc2) when I restart it after updating the firmware and doing all the required customization. Will have to attach a serial console and see if it yields any details. I fear the storage is faulty :-(
Anyone tried doing warranty claims on AliExpres?

Die #wlan Durchsatzrate von rd. 700 Mbit ist mehr als von der #fritzbox gewohnt und zufriedenstellend. Da kann man nicht meckern.

Noch kurz der #Stromverbrauch: Laut meiner #Shelly zieht die OpenWrt One mit 3 Clients 4 Watt.
Ich finde, das ist ein anständiger Wert.
Die Brutto-Durchsatzrate von 780 Mbit/s ist ja ganz nett, aber entscheidend ist, was real rauskommt.
Ein Vergleich mit der ollen FritzBox zeigt eine Steigerung der Performance beim secure copy von einem lokalen Server im LAN um Faktor 10.
Erreicht werden 32 MB/s.
Das erste Test-Setup ist per Webinterface schnell gemacht. SSH-PubKey hinterlegen und zwei WLANs in den beiden Frequenzsbereichen mit #WPA3 hochziehen ging in wenigen Minuten. Und die laufen auch stabil seit zwei Tagen.
Lediglich bei der Aktivierung von DHCP habe ich mir selbst ein Ei gelegt, da musste ich zwei mal in den Recovery-Modus. Vermutlich war ich zu langsam bei der Bestätigung und die voreingestellte statische Verbindung wurde wieder aktiviert.
Also das OpenWrt One macht erst mal einen grundsoliden Eindruck. Das sehr stabile Alu-Gehäuse ist mit vier Schrauben zu öffnen und man kommt an alles problemlos ran.
Alles ist vormontiert, nur die Antennen muss man noch dranschrauben.
Achtung: Man sollte gleich dran denken, eine Batterie (CR 1220) mit zu shoppen, denn die ist nicht im Lieferumfang dabei.
Es wird mich niemand davon abhalten können, hier unter #OpenWRTOne Eindrücke und Testergebnisse zu posten. 😀
Nur ist unklar, wann ich dazu Zeit finde. Wie immer gibt es noch x konkurrierende Projekte...
Die Kombination aus Specs der #Hardware einerseits und #OpenSource andererseits hat mich überzeugt. Heute war Unboxing.
Sieht auf jeden Fall schon mal sehr solide aus - und blau.

I'm even recommending people get ones from GL-INET which supports #OpenWRT out of the box - although I still prefer to install the stock OpenWRT from the OpenWRT site on GL-INET devices instead of the slightly "slick UI" version of OpenWRT that GL-INET provide with the device.
In another post I just purchased an #OpenWRTOne to check it out - since I'm all sorted at home with my #VyOS firewall and #Unifi wifi I'm going to upgrade my mum's home internet with the OpenWRT One 🙂

Now I have powered it up. So far So Good!
Power use is quite low, the two below readings made with the device essentially idle, and with one wired and one wifi client pulling data "full blast"..
At the wall (including PSU overhead) these are about 4.5 and 8 watts use.
