Climate justice is the focus of the EU funded project LEVERS. The melt of Alpine glaciers is posing issues that will impact the whole world. How to get prepared to this gloomy scenario is one of the focus of the Swiss Learning Venture.

Ice&Life is an innovative project that explores one of our planet's greatest current metamorphoses, the melting of glaciers all over the world.

The LEVERS project aims to reach diverse learners across communities by engaging them in action for climate justice. This requires tackling polarisation, and finding ways to unite those with opposing points of view around shared goals.

The LEVERS project aims to reach diverse learners across communities by engaging them in action for climate justice. This requires tackling polarisation, and finding ways to unite those with opposing points of view around shared goals. To go beyond the bubble or echo-chamber of those already interested in taking climate action, LEVERS draws on insights from project partner UCL Climate Action Unit, and specifically their "Seven Insights from Neuroscience and Psychology" (henceforth
"The Seven Insights", see Roberts et al., 2021).

Insight 1: Speak to the Elephant, Engage the Intuition

Our minds operate through two modes: intuitive thinking (the Elephant) and deliberative reasoning (the Rider). Intuition, shaped by personal experiences, drives our initial responses. Deliberative reasoning, though crucial, requires conscious effort.

The "Elephant-Rider" metaphor highlights the power imbalance: 95% of our thinking happens intuitively, while only 5% is deliberate. Both modes are valuable, but to effectively engage with climate change, we need to connect with people's personal experiences.

When discussing climate change, start by tapping into people's lived experiences. This approach resonates with intuition, allowing for a more receptive and engaging dialogue. By understanding individual perspectives, we can build a bridge towards shared goals and effective climate action.

Live news from the Levers project: the Center for the Promotion of Science (CPN) in Serbia has created a learning project through the Levers Project to facilitate multi-level education and raise awareness of the importance of climate justice through urban beekeeping.
